I wanted a list of all the plants who like to be together and those that do not and came across this so thought that I would share it.

Worth printing off and keeping

Lacelotte

Thanks for that! I've already printed it to put with my planting rotas.

allaboutliverpool

I have printed it ready to laminate for my shed.

Unlike Joe Swift I am happy to take advice!

Oh dear. I've planted garlic along one edge of my runner bean bed. The nearest beans will be about 1ft away. Is this far enough away to avoid a problem?

did that with ours last year, no problems at all  :)

PurpleHeather

I think it said it stops their growth a bit.

With the volume I get each year it wont be noticed.

Shame that we can not get these things to flavour one another. I rather like a pat of garlic butter on me beans

Thanks Manics, that's reassuring  :)

I have always been skeptical about companion planting - a lot of it just does not make sense. If you look at the list given in the link you will find contradictions in it:

Beans  -  Friends include Cabbage family
but
Cabage Family - Foes include Beans!

Peas - Foes include Potatoes
but
Potatoes - Friends include Peas!

Looking at Cucumbers "Sage is generally injurious to Cucumbers" - does the plant get up and beat up the nearest cucumber plant?

If you look at other texts on the subject they all seem to contain contradictions (at least all the ones I have read).

Also don't even think about having a sensible crop rotation with all these pik n' mix plantings!

I was wondering about the interplanting of mint which becomes invasive. Then at the bottom of the list read it should be in a pot. But how would that be able to effect the taste of a nearby plant???  And how many pots would that require?? And then keeping all those pots watered??   ::)

One year I was hoping that interplanting mixtures of veggies plus flowers would protect my eggplant (one plant) from flea beetles but no such luck- those wiley wascals found the eggplant in the middle of my complex planting.

An expert would explain this better.

But I will try with the same simplicity I would with a child.

Suppose you are a carrier of a germ. Most people will have resistance but some people will not.

If you are with the people with resistance then no one gets sick.

If you are with the people without resistance some will get sick.
