Right you lot - 'fess up!  Who was dancing the rain dance on Thursday?

Thanks a bunch - first time ever taking three of the kids up into the Dales, cycling and camping.  First night in a tent for the girls.  And some pillock dances >:( .

A cracking good thunderstorm feels very different when you're in a tiny tent ??? ---- anyway, we enjoyed it - strange as we may seem :) :) :) .  Even the girls - scared stiff of thunder and lightning if they're in the house; but in a tent?  They had a ball!!!

Fortunately, no serious leaks or drips.  Got back yesterday, after three days hard cycling - amazing what an 8 year old can do!

Tired, stiff - and now got all the washing to do.  Hmmmmphhhh!

All best - Gavin

The worst bit is getting the tent dry! ;D  Wasn't me dancing, honest, tho could do with some of the wet stuff!  Don't know if I would fancy a storm in a tent, think I would have removed my self to the car!!!Sounds like you had a good time tho :D

Excellent Gavin, wasn't me tho, promise!  Never been to Yorkshire.  Glad you and the kids had a good time and made it home okay, even tho you are knackered!   ;D

Hey wasnt me either, I am on holiday this week so really wanted the sunshine. Think Ozzy has been 'at it' again.
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

Hide in the car, Doris?  We were a right bunch of pillocks - on bicycles!  No shelter there!  :)

It's a long time since I've done any camping - but it is weird these days.  The size of these canvas mansions!  ???  The whine of electric pumps to pump up the inflatable beds.  ???  Barbecues you can park a Boeing on.  ???  Arrays of furniture that make IKEA look professional - the scrounge around for missing bits - hee-hee! ???  The eerie glow of a night-time tent lit up by electric light - doesn't leave much to the imagination!  ??? ??? ???

At least we know that we have a permanent ticket to enter any campsite, however full it may be - just try rolling up on bikes with 3 kids in tow, whatever time you like, and a pitch will be found.  Really p.ss.s off the hi-tech brigade who are being turned away!  ;D ;D ;D

Once the next blast of rain is by, we're off to do the same on the North York Moors - perhaps Friday?  Your call, Ozzy - do your stuff! :)  If the weather truns better, maybe a bit earlier - and we'll catch the Perseids (due on the night of the 12th - watch out for them!)

All best - Gavin

Gavin you've done my heart good.To see children enjoying their own country side, running free and experiencing such pleasures instead of being traipsed half way round the world in search of the sun..............bet they are all the better people for it as well.

Ok Gavin - I hold my hands up - it was me :-[    I only wanted it to rain on my little bit of Hertfordshire - so sorry :-*

Quite an experience - a thunder storm in a tent - not one that I would like I must admit, but I suppose to the kids it was quite an adventure.  Glad you all had a good time and made it home ok :D
Happy gardening all...........Pat

Wasn't me Gavin. Am thinking of turning my little garden into a water/bog garden with the amount of rain we have had in the last few weeks. It's crazy!

Glad you had a good holiday. Sounds like fun - I love camping!

Gavin, the last time I was camping I was twelve years old and with the girl guides.  There was a thunderstorm and our leader wouldn't let us out of our tents to shelter in a nearby barn!  It's still one of my most vivid memories so Gardengirl is right your kids will remember it!

Mind you that was so long ago we didn't have sleeping bags (let alone camp beds) but had to take army blankets with us, folded and sewn double and the farmer filled them with straw for us - palliasses I think you would call them?

Midnight feasts and a tin of condensed milk spilt in my wellie boot when the dreaded leader did her rounds!  I still had to wear it tho as it rained constantly.

Happy, happy days - or not!

Anyway RAINDANCERS PLEASE STOP NOW

Oh blimey I remember soggy Guide Camps!!! And we didn't have camp beds or lilos to sleep on - just the lumpy ground, a groundsheet and a sleeping bag.

The only camp we went on when we were allowed into a barn was for Prince Charles and Di's wedding. The kind farmer set up a tiny television for us and we sat on hay bales watching it.

Well the rain dancers seem to have stopped around here. The sun is shining and the flooding is receeding, both in the garden and on the roads.
