THE humble onion could become a scarce sight on East Anglian dinner tables this year after the loss of up to a third of the region's crop.... Dutch onions, often used as a back-up, also had a poor year, and South American crops will not be available for several months.

Mr Haward said: "The worst-case scenario is that onions won't be available, and at best the prices are going to go up - I wouldn't be surprised to see the current price of £1 per kilo goes up to £1.50 within a month."

Might explain why mine were not great either!

Didn't have a great year myself, I've still some left but they won't last. I may well sneak up to Wigan to snare a few.  ;D ;D ;D

Had a fantastic year with onions but down to the last 7-8.

My onions were great last year but with 7 of us they didn't last long, will be planting twice as many this year.

Got maybe 30 Stuttgart Giant left (whoppers, mind!) and a big rope of Red Sun shallots. Sorted. ;D

After last year's problems, I think I overdid them this year.

one guy left the allotments and left all his onions in the ground, great big whopping ones they were and he's the one who had weeds growing everywhere  :o ;D

I had one string of onions left (about 20 on the String)
but there is still 2 rows of leeks down the plot to help me through
