Just at the thought stage, but having been on A4A for sometime now, I've come to relize we have quite some talent out there when it comes to words and certainly not a lack of enthusiasm when it comes to telling a tale or two. (  ;) )
There's also many a true story (and other-wise) that seem to be hovering just below the surface!
So! I was wondering if a new forum outside A4A (to start with) would be feasable. If there's enough support it could well become an extra to A4A in the same way as the recipes section is.
Initially, and also to protect content it would be closed to outsiders as far as that is possible.
I dunno. Maybe it wouldn't get off the ground at all, but as I say, if the support is there I'll start one and if it proves popular we could add a link to it via A4A if Admin and contributors agree.
What think you to this 'Once upon-a-time' idea? (Maybe you get a freeby kiddies bed-time story!)
Ken.

Dunno Ken. Attractive idea but maybe a bit pretentious? I've always wanted to write but never found the time or the inspiration.

Eric (Palustris) has written some red hot stuff for kids.

Pretentious from a contributors point? I don't think so, G'. We all have a story to tell be it a dream or a true one. Some are no more than an idea, some are memories too personal to speak about yet can come out as pretty amazing stories - disguised sometimes as Ian Fleming did -  but never-the-less, fascinating in the reading.
Either way, I see nothing wrong pretentious or even ego seeking about story telling. Aren't books still best sellers?
Thanks for your thoughts, at least you have responded, G'.

Ray's had a book in the process of being written for years, from when he was a driving instructor..it's hilarious , maybe this would encourage him to finish it, I'm a member of a site that does short stories so there is a call for it, kk..good luck with it  ;D

How about some poetry too?

Think its a good idea, some people are great story tellers !!!!

Take care

Whilst perusing the web recently, I came across "fanfic" or fan fiction.  This is where you take a situation that already exists - like Harry Potter or Star Wars - and create your own fiction around it.

Now I haven't done any creative fiction for mutter mutter mumble years (the year end accounts aren't included because that comes with the job spec).  But guess what??  I've now created two stories, both about 4,500 words long, and it was a great experience.  Getting from the initial idea to the final draft is very satisfying.

It's worth having a go, it's great fun, very challenging and a good work out for the old grey matter.

Thanks Manic'...maybe a site that's not too pushy and one that allows addition over time and especially when read by others could be just the sort of inspiration Ray needs?

Cefer; Brilliant idea!! Poetry is a story albeit in verse. I'm sure a space could be found for that.

Early days...let's see what happens.
Ken.

Just caught your post, S'Birch. I take it you're in favour?

bupster

You could divide it into themes, so that each contributor had something to aim for, almost as if it were a short story class or seminar. People who wanted feedback could ask for it; people who prefer to write fanfic could have their own threads. It's a really interesting idea. I'd be glad to help, though I haven't much time.
For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

Again some good ideas there, thanks Bupster and this is a newby for me too so any help, ideas, suggestions are very welcome and you seem to be in favour of such a site?

Just to clarify things; This is not, (by it's obvious content) any sort of competition to A4A or I wouldn't have the cheek to mention it here. I'm hoping for an addition to the site like the 'Shed,' the 'Photo Section,' 'Watershed' and the 'Recipe' link and other boards not directly related to allotments but which offer advice and entertainment. Clicking on any of those A4A non-allotment pages for a few moments isn't a bad thing. nothing wrong with a change of scene now and then, we all have other interests and if connected via A4A, even better.
Thanks so far, Ken.

a great idea but what if some one started a story and then others just added little bits to it i think that would be well funny ;D ;D and very entertaining as some of the posts on here have me in stitches lol

Yes indeedy....it could be called 'OUR LITTLE STORY'. How about a short paragragh per person.....or has that been said already? :-[
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

Cuke

A short story section sounds like a good idea to me, I've got a few things I've written and not known what to do with so somewhere to put them for people to comment on etc would be welcome and inspire me to write some more no doubt too. :)

Grawrc! You are the worlds worst speller, it's convinst!

Well, so far all posts have been positive. A couple more and I'll set it up with all you early birds joining in to decide it's format!!

I like all suggestions to-date. (Apart from the obvious; Fiction, Non-Fiction, Critic section and poetry/rhyme/monologue).....the idea of a 'Participation Story' really appeals.
Just one thing. It has to be navigability. I mean, it has to have interest without being swamped with a mass of different headings. I'll give it a little while longer on here to see how the interest goes, (pass it round if you wish) and if there's enough initial support I'll get on with it.
Ta-so-far. Ken.

Seems from E's and PM's people have quite a few ideas about format. I've created it from what's been said and left unlocked a site comments thread. Anyone interested can have a look-see. No registration for looking...yet!
