The sooner you cook it after picking the better, as the sugars turn to starch as soon as they're cut.

I pop mine into boiling water for about 8 mins. Drizzle with butter..............mmmmmm, you've made me hungry :D
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

manicscousers

ray cuts it off the cob, sticks it in the microwave for 2 mins, eat it  :P ;D

My lottie neighbour Ahmed dries out his sweetcorn cobs for seed every year.

But when me & Alfie go into his shed (heated by the most fabulous wood-burning stove) in deepest, darkest Winter, he pops a dried cob in the fire and we wait until the corn gets really nice and toasted & then we chip it off with a knife, pop a bit of salt on it, eat it and then flake out-asleep  on his numerous settees for a couple of hours.

HEAVEN  ;D

Microwave it wrapped in it's own jacket, or if you prefer take off it's coat amd wrap in cling film. Personally I think it is better when cooked in it's own jacket.

Fresh? NEVER more than 4 minutes. After all, you can eat it raw??

Many's a time I've been peckish at the plot and just eaten one raw - always forget the toothpick tho  ;D
If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.

hmmm, sounds more like the start of a really good story regardless of the lovely corn - look forward to the next installment  ;D

Peeps do be aware that if you use CLINGFILM, for the microwave, it should be for that purpurse,  they specially make one for microwaves.  Not just the one you wrap your sandwiches or leftovers covered.  Rosebud. :)

I drop mine into my steamer for about 5 mins - I think the time varies between how big th ecobs are & personal taste - sometimes I can't wait for the 5 minutes so as soon as I smell sweetcorn in the steam - woof! it's gone  ;D
is it in the sale?

Pick the cob as close to planned cooking time as you can. Rush to stove and boil for 3/4 minutes. You need to cook the shop bought ones for much longer as they are full of starch by the time you get them.

:-[ :-[ I appear to have ruined my crop by overcooking it....bah!

my first year growing it and always only had shop bought, ah well I'll know better in future.

Nice one Gerry for asking, at least we both learned something

Bear in mind that the different types of corn have different shelf lives, the older corns had to be cooked immediately, the sugar enhanced will stand a wait of a day or so and the supersweets will stand a bit longer because the sugar in corn starts to convert to starch as soon as it it is picked, but the sugar enhanced and the supersweets have been bred to convert slower. It pays to know which family your corn belongs too, especially as  cross pollination depends on the family too XX Jeannine
