Just had a quick look at the message boards over on the other side (the beeb) and found a very limited choice for gardeners/allotmenteers - is anyone using those boards now ?
Keep up with the good work Dan - thanks for letting us have our freedom to speak on most topics.

well, I haven't regretted joining for 1 minute!  It's a great site with friendly people and plenty going on, and good advice with friendly banter. Agree with you about the bbc boards, never posted there but occasionally 'lurked', seems very sparse there now. Vive A4A! :)

You got in in one Granny! Lots of us have defected from the Beeb after they first closed down 'In the Potting Shed' and then have sidelined 'Over the Garden Fence' (which you can only access now if you had the exact link on your 'faves' menu).

It's a shame but I for one am thrilled to have found A4A, it's far more user friendly and fun.

AND we've got a 'Shed'!

Really, really glad you did give in Tim, just hated to leave you behind. If I remember correctly, it was Oz that started the ball rolling in this direction way back when on the beeb board.

Yes Ina it was Oz who started the  "brain drain" over here,when we all belonged over there. It looks so boring now they have closed everything down. Do you remember our partys, i know C L will and Eileen. C L i wonder how the farmers are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D.

For those of you that don't know, Beeb has finally scrapped 'Over the Garden Fence'. Popped in via the back door to find a message from Camilla. I guess that's it folks.

BUT, here we all are with our very own Shed, a friendly Mod who likes us being here (Three cheers for Dan...hip hip!!!.

So, while it was great we all met up at the Beeb, I think we can safely say the grass is greener on the other side of the fence....

I have certainly 'gone off' the BBC boards of late. The mods there are very high handed and 'nannyish', ie they think they know whats best, hence the recent very unpopular revamp.

I find i have far more in common with the folks on here too. They have rather a strange group of posters on the BBC these days.

Agree Richard...and I may unsubscribe from the newsletter..'Create a virtual garden'? Haven't got enough time to look after the real one! Here's like one big 'Gardening Friends' ......CLX  ;D

I agree on the beeb mods Richard but don't underestimate the few weirdo posters there. Some of them found it necessary to tell others what they could post and how they should think and putting others down. The real nastyness started when they would get support from people who suddenly came out of nowhere to help stir things up and then disappeared again just as fast. I must admit that, at times, I had to laugh at the bizarre turn some events took. On the down side, I think some good people really did feel hurt by others and that I cannot stand.

Here, we have a bunch of good and reasonably balanced (what did I say?) people. Any weirdo daring to try and ruin the atmosphere here will be dealt promptly I think.

Ina, I actually feel sorry for any weirdos that try to stir things up here, it has been tried before and boy were they dealt with swiftly!  Well balanced, us lot...well I guess that is one way of looking at us.  Madly enthusiastic plant and vegetable growing eccentrics is more fitting I think.

Well balanced? hmmmm only when i'm not drunk, Madly enthusiastic? only when i'm drunk  ;D ,

Some of us is as well balanced as a first time blindfolded  monocyclist on ice.

As well ballanced as an elephant on a garden fence. So enthusiastic that instructions are forgotten and work has to be repeated three or four times.
As for eccentric, most definitly. Its what makes me unique from the rest of the martians.

I remember the beeb boards when they first went sour,... 10pm closing and all that jive.... trying to organise an email protest ... hahhaha.. still beebs loss.. anyways this place is so much more chilled.. I can understand peeps loyalty to the beeb.. but they really did take the rise out of those who stayed so long... all those tech probs??? yeah roite... plus we got our own smileys here... .. and where else can u go for a lil bit of upside down dancing eh???????
