I just thought I would let you all know that my total knee replacement operation was successful.  It was lovely to arrive home yesterday and feel the warmth of the sun on my face whilst taking a look at my new flower border which is still in full bloom.   ;D

Gardening will be out for several weeks, maybe months, but although the leg is sore and held together with about 20 - 30 staples, the deep pain that I have had since April has disappeared.  Evidently the knee cap had broken in three places as well as deterioration in the main cartilage of the joint.

I think I will have a rest now, having been on the computer for half an hour or so catching up with emails.  I will have to get back to reading what has been happening on A4A later on.    :D

Glad to hear the op was a success. Not a bad time of year to be laid up, if you have to be- just take it easy and do lots of planning and ordering others about!!

Welcome back Pauline, glad you are on the mend.

What were you doing to get to that state?

An oversize car sponge is good to kneel on!

Pauline as per my PM really glad everything went well. Hope you have plenty of reading material. You will be able to sit and watch those bird feeders :). Take care and don't do anything silly.

It's osteoarthritis Tim and I have it in every joint.   :(

I used to be very active, running the line for a youth's football club that I managed sixteen years ago and taking the lads for training.  I don't think I have mis-used the joint but have inherited the condition.  My right knee was replaced in 2001 yet I did very little gardening at that time.   :-\

Really pleased that all is well Pauline, good on yer 8)

Pauline I'm so glad everything went well for you.
Thanks for posting this I have just told my mother-in-law that you are feeling much better. She has just been told today she has to have the knee op in five months time and your story has put her mind at ease.  :)
It's taken five years of nagging her to be seen to get to this stage.

Thank you all for your good wishes.

The District Nurse came yesterday and said I had a haematoma.  After discussions with the Ward Staff Nurse at the Royal Bournemouth, they both decided I should go to Salisbury District Hospital as it is nearer.  I would have preferred to have gone back to Bournemouth as that is where the op took place.

John and I were over 4 hours at Salisbury where they did Xrays and blood tests.  I then saw the Orthopaedic Registrar who asked why I was there and had not gone back to Bournemouth!   ::)  He said that the haematoma would probably disperse on its own and that if I begin to feel unwell I should contact Bournemouth.  I arrived back home utterly exhausted having been out of the house for over 5 hours.

I slept in a bit today and feel much better.   :D   ;)

Lauren, the recovery from the operation is very painful but only lasts for a few weeks, much better than your mother-in-law going through the rest of her life in pain and on high doses of analgesics.

Welcome back Pauline and you look after yourself girl.  ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Does that mean that you are now classed as bionic?! 8)

Hope your haematoma sorts itself out, take it easy! ;D
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

I'm delighted to hear you've had the op Pauline and that it has gone so well. Sorry about the haematoma but hopefully that will disperse over the next 10 - 14 days and you'll be as good as new! I hope the pain is lessening. Thinking of you.

Hope all goes well with your new knee Pauline.
I am yet another in the same boat, having just (2 weeks ago) had an arthroscopy on my left knee, only to be told that I have no cartillage left, and will probably be looking to have the full knee replacement within the next few years. Meanwhile the other knee is starting to "play up" now too.
Grow your own and enjoy the fruits of your labours,
Regards Alan.

I would get your knee replaced as soon as possible as it will get very painful if it isn't already.  Once you are put on the waiting list Government Directives state that the operation must be performed within 5 months.  Mine was actually 4 months.

Meanwhile, I would recommend that you ask your GP to send you to physiotherapy to strengthen the muscles in both knees.

I am still suffering with pain but know it will only be for a few weeks.  I get off to sleep all right but then wake up about 3.30 am.  Last night I took the painkillers but when they weren't effective, I came downstairs, put an ice pack on my knee and logged on to A4A.  Kenkew was on at the same time but I don't know whether he was late to bed, early rising or forgotten to log out.   :-\  I eventually got back to sleep about 6am.   :D
