Photo of my Great Granddaughter in her Christening gown last month. The gown is over 100 years old, passed down through Chloe's Dads family Sorry about poor quality photo.

Fabulous Lorna. What a pretty little girl! My grandmother was a seamstress and we have a christening robe and cashmere cape - rather yellowed now - which she made for her own babies and which I used for mine. I'm afraid the current generation in my family don't seem to do the christening thing, but I suppose that is better than if they were hypocritical  about it.

Anyway congratulations on the ggdaughter, the christening and thank you for sharing the beautiful picture with us.

Enchanting, Lorna - beautiful baby, beautiful gown, beautiful picture!  :)

tim

That is just exquisite. Both!!

Must dig our heirloom out - weighs more than the child!

Thank you for all your kind remarks. Usually babies cry when I pick them up (maybe my deep voice :)) Chloe-Anne just smiles so sweetly at me. Just a pity that her Great Granddad didn't live to see her. My Granddaughter is so lucky, a very contented baby and a partner who is a real hands on Dad, lovely to see.
Lorna.

She looks like a beautiful little doll Lorna. That's one to frame. ;)
All our family's babes were too big for the 'heirloom'.
Smile, it confuses people.

honeybee

Lorna that was certainly a picture to make me stop and stare, what a beautiful sight, both Chloe-Anne and the stunning gown.

You must be very proud!

It put me in mind of the christening gown that my Grandma had made for my Father in 1934, he was the youngest of six children, the only boy and spoiled rotten lol  ;D

The beautiful gown got passed through generations, it was made of silk and a blue or pink ribbon was passed through the middle of it depending whether it was a boy or girl.

We are a small family and only about ten babies or so have been christened in it including myself and my two boys but unfortunately it has not bore a pink ribbon since 1965 when the last girl in my family (my younger sister) was born  :o

But i have it safely wrapped in tissue and a lovely box just as my mother passed it onto me, as she knew i would respect it as it has to be respected :)

Gives me a warm feeling to know that these traditions are still important in this 'New Age'.
Wonderful picture, I bet the gown will be worn by her children!

lorna

Thank you honeybee and Ken. My Granddaughter was really worried in case Chloe-Anne decided to "christen" the gown in her own way :) Chloe's Great Aunt  (the lady who has looked after the gown) told Gemma not to worry.  She has done such a great job with the gown, it is still brilliant white.
