Went up today and all the plants have died so I just had to remove the fruit that was there.

One slightly frosty night was all it took.

A bit disappointed as it looked lovely last week.

Awwwww! Sawfish I'm so sorry! PS Is that the mighty Ivor Cutler? or is it really you!!!!

Sparkly

Ours are looking dodgy too! Some of the leaves are totally black/dead. I am hoping enough of the plant is alive to keep the pumpkin going and I will just take the fruits of the other squash. Boo Hoo.

Its Ivor Cutler my hero and far better looking than Tim.

Alarmed by Sawfish's comments, I rushed to my Glasgow allotment. Apart from some top leaves a bit crinkled, everything looks OK. What a relief!! My allotment is on a hill, and it may be that the coldest air went further down the hill. The temperature in the greenhouse got as low as 1 C, but the tomatoes, cucumbers and pepinos are fine.

I got "done" in the week too.  First visit to the lottie for seven days and my Ahmed's Bosnian pumpkin looked as though someone had been spraying something nasty ..... I now know what frost damage looks like !

I've left the poor wee thing attached to it's umbilical chord to see if we get some sun to colour up the underside, but what do I do with it now ?  Cut it and bring it home ?  Can I eat it now ?

Tops of the Gigantes beans got caught as well but everything lower down was fine.

Some neighbours have lost courgettes.

Oh the joys !

Yes my plot is in a valley and is a bit of a frost pocket.

Sorry to hear about it, very unlucky to get frost already.

The BBC says that the temperature will fall to 0 C tonight in Glasgow, and the rest of the week looks like it will be cold at night. I will need to get some plastic covers over some tender things such as watercress, celery, lettuce, celeriac. My everbearing strawberries are already covered to keep the rain off, so they will be alright.

It didn't say that when I looked this morning !!!   :-X

However, all that's left ootside on t'lottie is some chard, cabbage and swede and poor wee pumpkin that I've covered in newspaper.

In a blind fit of panic (and wondering how on earth I was going to be able to fleece a whole trellis of beans), I have tonight picked about two full carrier bags worth of Gigantes and had the last of the Blue Lake and runners.

I wasn't expecting the frost again until tomorrow, so I'm glad I ignored the Boob this morning.

;D
