Nope Caroline. The heading of my post is the truth. This really is the first time I have had a go at growing edibles (except for couple I mentioned). For instance have just been thinning beetroots but asked my self how much space does each beet need, same with carrots. I just don't know :'(. Only have a small area for veg but tried a short row of peas, thought I was being clever, got son to make me some metal hoops, fixed net over the hoops. Turned out to be useless, not high enough so pea plants got squashed big time. Didn't realise that peas grow so tall. Have picked what I can and dumped rest of plants. Will know better next year!!
Naturally I am chuffed if the experienced gardeners say I am doing OK.
Back to the garden, tea break over.
Lorna.

I'm in my third year and still making loads of mistakes, so don't worry about it!

just started picking beans here too and the big toms take longer to ripen perhaps grow cherry ones as well next year just to have something to go on with
and mmm the carrots are bigger than mine ???

Looks like you've done very well to me, Lorna.  The slugs/snails got all three sowings of my carrots and my runners are only just in flower.  I've done better with my tomatoes though and have been picking ripe ones for a few weeks - they are a cherry type.  If you want dwarf peas try Half Pint.  They only grow about 12 -18" high and they are very tasty.   :)

Lorna, they all look brilliant to me, my large toms are still green , and one of my tall ones you know with all those toms on collapsed last night :'( :'( :'(, so do not worry about yours nothing wrong there except you might have brought me a parsnip with you  I LIKE them lots. ;D ;D ;D

Other marg. I have grown gardeners delight several times but somehow forgot them this year. I do like them. I wanted to grow bigger tomatoes this year for grilling etc. Seeds were kindly sent to me by Alishka.

Georgie have made a note of dwarf peas, will certainly try them next year/

Mary. I can just hear you saying "Oh bother" when you found that tall tom plant broken. What a shame.  Parsnips are only pencil size at moment, just growing them for fun, will ask family if they like parsnips They never had them at home can't stand the smell when they are cooking :)
