I got back today from my weeks holiday, a friend stayed in the house and looked after the birds etc, the garden well what can i say.
runner beans are flying away, cabbages look really good, and most other things are surviving, my courgette plants look really scruffy but are producing some beautiful fruits. tomatoes and strawberries are so desperatly in need of some sunshine sadly the rain and wind are getting to them before they ripen and slugs and snails are everywhere.
can i pick cabbages at any time cos although they are not due out til later they have a beautiful heart to them? do i always have to wait for the set time for veggies or can i use my initiative and pick them when they look ready?
cheers all

Hello Debs - did you have good hols? Where'd ya go?
Agree that toms need sun although blight got all but the cherry toms in the garden. All lottie toms had it.  :(
On the picking front I think I would pick it if it looked nice and ready. Personally i think most veg tastes best young. Glad it all survived without you.  ;D
Don't throw paper away. There is no away.

debster. Hope you had a great holiday. It's amazing how the garden can change in just a week. Sounds like your crops are doing well.

we only took the kids to Blackpool and they loved it we have been upside down inside out back to front etc etc weather was really good on the whole never spoilt any of it, back for a rest though and the garden is dreadfully in need of some tlc still some lovely veg ready for me and some plants to be planted on so plenty to do and another week off yet so some sun would be appreciated  :D
passed some awful sights on the journeys though so much flooding its heartbreaking, never seen anything like it and so many cars broken down on the motorway does make me feel incredibly lucky
