Up to £20,000!  Yes - old hat & all that.  But - a member of our family will not accept that NO ONE in their senses gives money away?

So s/he spent £17 on the usual comeon phone call, a month ago.

Today it arrived. The promise of a 65x85mm digi camera - for £6.50.

I know you know!!

The ones that amuse me are the scratch cards that come in newspapers, or through the door.  Every one is of course a winner.  As you rightly say, you spend a lot on a premium rate phone line, then win a disappointing prize.

There a small amount of fun to be had by scanning the list of prizes and guessing the valueless one that'll be the one you actually get.   So it might say:
£20,000 cash!
Car!
World cruise plus £5,000 spending money!
Villa in Spain!
£2,000 holiday vouchers!

That's easy - it's the holiday vouchers, offering you money off a vastly inflated package holiday but only if you buy the insurance and stay in downtown Baghdad in the rainy season.

But sometimes it's things like the digital camera that you mentioned - you imagine a nice Nikon, but get a Woolworths toy.  Or an emerald ring (remember Ratners?).   ;D ;D ;D

I won a meal for 2 as i won a comp to name a lake in the village.

My mum won a trip to france for 6 adults which was a nice day out for the family.

Speaking of 'real competitions' I won my parents a luxury weekend for 2 in a 5 star resort in australia, a diamond ring for my mum and a 'high afternoon tea' with butler service for her and 3 friends.

I used to be great at winning competitions in australia.  Won loads of free cinema tickets to premiers and cds/records (showing my age!)

Congrats to the REAL winners (and Amazin, just loved your response!!) but .....

in the inbox this morning is yet another of those emails, forwarded by a dear but clearly wishful-thinking friend, that informs me that Mr Bill Gates is dispensing of his millions left, right and centre and wants to give me some, blah, blah, blah......went straight to the bin along with the 'yes it really is true' subject line...

Personally I was just happy to win a tennis racquet in a raffle. I was about five at the time and the raquet was bigger than me, kept it for years though...CLX
