Marilyn when did you sow them please? I sowed a few but nowhere near as big as yours. I did sow everything rather late due to my holidays.

these were planted beginning of april, lorna..what I haven't shown is the second sowing, end of april, they're at the other end, only 3 feet tall at the mo, I think we could do with a bit of warm for them..these got a good start with the heat  :)

I seeded mine in april straight into the ground and they are only one foot tall   :(  I think they need some help!

Mine are the same.  Planted in pots & put out at the end of April.

All mine are very short with all the leaves near each other at the base.

BTW how do Kelloggs make corn flakes?
Is it just a case of squashing the kernels on a baking tray and cooking them?

This is a skill I have had passed down to me from my grandmother. It is something I look forward to each summer, sometimes even more than the jam making. A real bit of nostalgia for me, as I was very close to my granny. We'll be lucky to get any this year - No1 Daughter has been 'severely indisposed' for over 4 months, so her Corn, Squash & French Beans are way behind.

I don't think the plants or cobs will be very big this year because of the lack sunshine, mine went out late, the end of may because of the high winds we had at the time, they are between 1 and 3 foot high. Last year my cobs didn't start forming until they were about 5 foot high, old Sid on the next plot has cobs forming and the plants are bearly 3 foot high.  ??? :-X :-\ :-\ :'( ;D ;D ;D

No wI'm depressed! Thought my corn were oneof the things which hadn't been affected by the weather, but they were late going out as I had to start again, and they are about the size of yours, Tim, if not smaller, and we're much further north. Does this mean I won't get any corn? :(

You are both joking.

The real way to make cornflakes is to strip off the cob. Peel each individual kernel using a mini peeler available from Lakeland  for £3.99 plus PP.

Then you take the inside kernels, blend in liquidiser, then strain.

You them press the corn into a rope , dry overnight in the airing cupboard, do not over dry!! When almost dry but still pliable slice with a truffle slicer also available from Lakelands £6.99 plus PP

Bake the tiny slices at 100 degrees until crisp and brown.

You can also put the mixture through a pasta maker and make corn niblets with it. Dry as above.

Mine are smaller than tims - and i sowed at the right time too... dont think we will be having any sweetcorn this year... Most of them are underwater!

Mine have hardly any spaces between the leaves, are about 3 foot high, but have flowered at the top already.  I have no silks for the pollen to fertilize though, is that normal? ???
