Yes, I believe that is defo a rose.  Beyond that, I am no help!  :-\

Yes and, yes. And since we get dozens of them I pull them out so no idea how long it takes. I loathe roses!

I thought a briar type rose usually had 7 leaves compared to the cultivated type having only 5, except on the suckers?

It look's like a dog rose or a sweet briar i would say properly a dog rose (Rosa canina).

If it's a dog rose they have a lovely pink flower they grow about 6ft x 4ft (1.8m x 1.2m).
