Jeannine

Need some ideas for an outfit I need to make quickly ,dressing up in 60's fashion.

It was going to be a poodle skirt and paper nylon petticoats, shirt with the collar stood up and  a black velvet choker, hair in a pony tail  with very pale pink lipstick and tons of mascara, large hooped earings, but I think this is 50's.

Then thought really tight jeans and an oversized sweater with ballet pump shoes but I think that is 60's too.

Was 60's the skinny short shift mini dress or  the hotpants and white boots that stretch. Bouffant hair do.If so I  am gonna look a complete idiot dressed like that.

Help please.

I need it for middle of next week.

That or a nice drop of 'crimperlene'.

Late 60's hippy era? Plently of scope there............ you could go as Janis Joplin with your long hair! ;D
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Oooh yes 'peace and love, Man'. Or think Mary Quant and Beatles Jeannine, or Mods and Rockers.
Smile, it confuses people.

The 60's fashions changed right through the 60's. Started off with lots of crimperlen(?) and swinging skirts, ponytails and rounded neck tops showing a slight prevocative cleavage. This was followed by a revolution from Nancy Quan(?) with the mini skirt and loopy ear-rings. Jeans were not so much a fashion item of the 60's, that seemed to start in the 70's. 60's hair-do's were very much Dusty Springfield-ish...high on top with long side bits that followed the curvature of the side of the face. Make-up was dark, especially round the eyes. I loved it.....but that's just me.

Mary Quant, I look more like Mama Cass  Elliot.XX Jeannine

Eh! I loved Mama Cass Elliot...died 1974-ish.
'Dream a Little Dream of Me'...
'It's Getting Better'.
'New World Coming'....etc.

Yes  I had blonde bouffant style hair do with loads of mascara and blue eye shadow,  The flouncy skirts with underskirts were before the early 60s.  I wore short shifts, mini skirts and yes the white tight boots were in.  Bright pinks, greens and yellow were the in colour (as they are now).  Those were the days.    Let us see in pics the finished result Jeannine.

Jeannine

I can't do pictures, come on can you really see me dressed up as Twiggy,I'me a size 24 for goodness sake she was a 6. Oh what am I going to do,what on earth did fat girls wear back then. I was a size 6 in the 60's.

I really am stuck here and slowly going up the wall.I can't think of a thing.

Did they have fat hippies, well girl hippies I mean.

I really need your help here, what would you all do,and don't say ring in sick.

Maybe I could wear a 1960's school uniform,oh that is even worse,me in a gymslip with navy blue knickers .

I don't think i have ever been at such a loss before.

Eh! J. Wasn't the sack-dress popular then?...And what the heck's sad about 'fat'...(Your word)...I love a girl who doesn't have sticky-out bones. Bet you'll go a treat...wear blue, it's a nice colour and it hides shadow, if that's a worry. Na! I think you'll do OK...BABEIEEE!

What about something timeless, like a 1960's nun :-\

How do you feel about a kaftan, Head band, beads etc with a flower painted on your face, up your legs, on you hands in gold paint, comfy flat sandals or no shoes, wandering about as if in a trance?
Or as Hattie Jaques in Carry on Matronhttp://www.moviemarket.co.uk/Carry_on_Matron_T104286/?  Or the wonderful Mama Cass http://www.casselliot.com/index2.htm for ideas.
Also Ban the Bomb could be a theme for a costume.

Carol

Hey thats a good idea Jeannine,  Kaftan look with loadsa beads, bright bright colours were on the go then, you surely remember.  But do try and do someat with your long hair and certainly pale  pink lipstick with with plenty of eye make up,  if possible.

:o

Jeannine

A kaftan thing I could probably do or a Kaftan top with trousers. let my hair down, centre parting, flowers in my hair, lots of beads and sandals, that has possibilities.

Now all I have to do is figure out what I am doing with this huge cake

By the way it is our schools 60th Birthday this next week, I don't know who picked the sixty clothes, but all the staff are wearing costumes.

Still fancy the gymslip  with my hair in braids..plaits

We are doing a concert in school and celebrating all week, then next Saturday we are open to the community with all sorts of stuff, another concert, agility dogs, birds of prey, all manner of stalls, bouncy castles and roundabouts, a goal kicking thingy and I am putting on a pet show. I think we will all be shot by next week, could someone please order sunshine for us.

Last time we did something daft like this I was a fairy all dressed in hot pink tulle.
