.. to order Rooster Potatoes from T&M next year. Didn't know you could get 'seed'.

Tesco had a big display today which reminded me of our purchase some months ago - which I mentioned here - & I think that they are quite super!!

Would you like a reminder Tim? XX Jeannine

Just watch that Tim J-he might not be 21 but he does flirt-in fact he taught me everything I know ;D

I wouldn't order Rooster (or any other) spuds from T&M, after my experience this year. As it was Feb when I decided I wanted to try Rooster, I phoned first to check they were ok for stock; put my order in online two minutes later...

Several weeks' delay and I finally got my box of seed spuds... minus the Roosters.  >:(

Phoned T&M and they spun such a tale, saying the website might not have been up-to-date, that Rooster harvests had been unexpectedly small and that I'd left it very late in the season to order (all exactly why I phoned up!)  When I told them I'd checked by phone, they went all quiet. Got a refund, but that doesn't get me the seed spuds I'd wanted.   Grrrr!

I wanted some roosters this year, but most of the sites had disclaimers saying there was very little stock around and that they expected to sell out very quickly.  Would be interested in hearing how those who did manage to get some get on with them.

tim

I notice that the listing still on the site is for 20 tubers only. Out of stock.

Thanks for the warning.

Make it on my birthday, Jeannine??

Chantenay

I got some rooster at Ryton Potato day - I just hope they can fend off blight and slugs, but I agree they are yummy.

Very strange...........as in the december newsletter from alan romans....it stated that all
stock of seed potato "Rooster" had been bought up by growers by that I mean farmers
as the dreaded T(esco) sales of rooster were going through the roof...which in turn a lot of tesco growers snapped up said seed tattie .  ::)

Thought it was in the profile - 23/12.

Bet I don't forget!! XX Jeannine

What is so special about these spuds?

I am planting Aaran Victory,Maris  Peer/Piper can't remember which one now, and a wee Italian one I got as  a gift, plus another one I have forgotten that was a freebie from T&M.

In my case, my mum's recommendation!  ::) ;D
She says they make the best jacket spuds she's had in years.
So, of course, off trots the dutiful daughter to try to get some seed spuds (hence the relatively late ordering time!)

And I think this year's T&M freebie spud variety was "Bonnie", wasn't it?

Jeannine

Triffid you are right, it was Bonnie, thank you Xx Jeannine

Jeannine - sorry, didn't answer - they are large, good shape, great colour, yellow flesh & taste great.

Jeannine

Thanks Tim, it seems I should remind me too on your birthday. Earlier I was looking for a particularly floury spud, I prefer a floury as a baker, and  Phil suggested Aarran Victory, they are tucked in now so am hopeful. XX Jeannine

Excellent to hear that reccomendation -- I'm growing them for the first time this year.  :)

louise stella

oooh I don't think Roosters are anything special - I think there are far nicer spuds!!  But it's all subjectives - depends what you like really!

Red Duke of York? Yes - excellent, & slug resistantish?

Rooster? Didn't know they'd been available long enough for comparisons to be made. Never saw them before this year.

Nicer for what, Louise? As salad or new potatoes - of course not. Etc.
