we're trying a new one this year, we last grew celery 2 years ago, it needs a lot of water but ours was a bit strong..nice in soup though..this one's called aurora golden, it's a self blanching..got a little pot growing on the windowsill..just showing..better luck this year, i hope  ;D

apparently the non blanching type have a better flavour and are less tough than the selfblanching type.

We grew Golden Self Blanching last year (from Chiltern Seeds). It doesn't need blanching or earthing up.  The flavour and texture were fine, but it isn't as white as traditional varieties.  Also it isn't very frost hardy, so best harvested before you get any severe frosts. Ours was (sort of ) under enviromesh and was ok through most of the winter, but not very crisp towards the end.

Sowed seed into modules in mid April in the GH (unheated) and planted out once they looked strong enough  - about 4-6 weeks later after a brief spell in the cold frame to harden off.

We actually inherited a couple of those clay blanching pots for Rhubarb so this year  I might try growing some self blanching inside one of them to see if it makes a difference.

Same here Jeannine. We tried years ago but failed. This year I'm growing quite a few things that i got from "real Seeds". I;m going to try their celery.Full White is the name. they say that you can either leave it alone , tie the tops with string or mulch with straw. Apparently it doesn't taste bitter like some do.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I grew celery for the first time last year (in pots).  The variety was Galaxy Lathom self-blanching.  I was very pleased with the results and I'm growing it again this year.   :)
