I was in a card shop looking at a card for my OH birthday, felt somebody close beside me i thought i shall move in a minute must choose my card, still aware of woman there and i felt as though she was pressing / pushing a little and my bag had seemed to move a bit so i turned around & said sorry would you like to get here with that she grabbed any card and went away quickly suddenly i thought my bag, when i looked the cow had opened the zip quite a bit her next move would have been my purse, i felt terrible because i watched her move away quickly without realising what she was upto straight away.  I worried all day that she would steal some other persons purse or wallet.
I am usualy quite on the ball with my bag which is always zipped up by the way. It quite shook me up i can tell you to think the woman was in her middle years also.and usually its the youngsters that get the blame for everything.

Oh Rosebud what a shock - yes it does not have to be the young to be a thief !!
What a good job you noticed when you did lets hope you put her off for while a least as I am sure she was surprised you sassed her out.

Oh dear Rosebud, that must have been a shock for you  :'(, it's a horrible feeling just thinking about 'what could have happened'.  Sending you hugs  :-*
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened

timelady

Oh how awful! But I'm glad she didn't get your purse. Hold that bag in front of you.

I worked in a gallery and once had an entire cabinet of silver jewellery taken - it was an older couple, nicely dressed, man in suit distracted me by asking about the artist whose work was in the upstairs gallery. It just felt so horrible, thinking you just never know who the 'bad guys' really are.

Just a thought Rosebud as the shop you were in got any cctv cameras in them so this thing can be caught out, please note I said thing not person.

Really sorry to hear that Mary but glad she didn't manage to get your purse. A friend of mine was out Christmas shopping and you know how crowded the shops get. A number of people were trying to get through shop doorway and when Polly got through she realised the same as you her bag was open. minus wallet with nearly £200.
Terrible to think we have to be on our guard all the time.
Take car. Lorna.

My SIL was shopping in Chester before christmas & she kept seeing the same 2 women in the shops she was in. One was carrying an ironing board & she bumped into SIL while the other one put her hand in her hand bag. She didn't get anything but it was a shockfor her.

rosebud you had a luck escape, my uncle had something simuar happen except his wallet was in a buttoned back pocket and he felt a tug and turned and then he felt his wallet the button had been cut out...

Mrs Ava

Thank goodness you are okay Mary.  What a shocking thing to happen.  Makes my skin crawl to think about someone having the nerve to do such a brasen act of stealing.  I'm with Richard, go back and explain to the shop keeper what happened, it may be a regular problem in there.

rosebud

Richard & Emma, i reported it straight away to the manageress she got up on a chair to see if she could see her with the discripsion i had given her but of course she had fled.  No cctv in the shop. It was so packed with peeps buying Valentine cards that she  was hidden till she got away.

Mrs Ava

Well at least she got away empty handed.

MrsKP

Same thing happened to my mum last year.  only this time they had a double act working.  "he" was asking mum how to fill the slip in (Argos) and "she" came up from behind mum and jolted mum's arm.  mum grabbed her wrist and girl started shouting, man pushed mum and she went over, they fled.

Police were called but don't think they've ever been caught.

:'(

hope you're not too shook up RB.   :-*

What a shock Buds. Really glad that you foiled the attempt. Doubt that the lady will go home completely empty handed tho, EJ...she'll just have moved on....another shop, another victim >:(

Poor Mary. Gives one butterflies in ones stomach just thinking of it,

When you do lose something, you feel such a fool. Dear Wife had £200 taken from her bag in a lift in the local dept store. About the only time She carried money in it.

Sorry to hear this Rosebud, nothing taken but as long as you are OK. >:(
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

rosebud

Thank you peeps for your kind thoughts, i kept on waking up last night thinking WHAT IF, silly i know but it did worry me somewhat. ;D ;D

Mary, have only just read this. Bet you were still shaking when you got home - with anger as well as shock!

I Had the exact opposite experience recently - despite warnings from friends and OH I am often guilty of leaving my purse right at the top of an open bag in view of all.  Then a woman stopped me as I got off the bus and quite sharply pointed out that my purse was "easy pickings for someone" - I felt quite ashamed and embarrassed but she was soooo right  :-[
Equality isn't everyone being the same, equality is recognising that being different is normal.

How awful Rosebud, you really feel like people are sh**ts when something like that happens. When I had my first baby I was mooching in a charity shop with babes in pram and when I turned to look at something someone took my bag from the handles- felt such a fool for putting it there, but hadn't thought about it until that happened.
The only thing that makes up for it is that I foiled a girls attempt to take someones purse from their bag. I spotted it out of the corner of my eye ( mooching for books in CS again!), shouted at her and she legged it- probably only to do it to someone else- but never chase. They are more desperate than you!
Don't lose faith in human nature- we are all lovely x
Don't throw paper away. There is no away.

Poor you Mary! Can appreciate it is such a shock - an invasion. Don't forget this has been going on throughout history - remember Fagin? There will always be bad people in the world, don't let it upset your equilibrium too much. Best, CLx
PS And you're reminded me to be more careful!

My sympathy Rosebud-it`s a horrible feeling. I `lost` a wallet a while back and still wonder if I was stupid and dropped it or whether some toe rag managed to lift it.
