Allotments 4 All

What the hell are these things called - the large bottle that go upside down on drink dipencers in offices. I need some for my watering plan and can't work out where to get any from... Tried ebay and freecycle, but not much hope searching when I can't think what they are called! Grrrr...

My office don't use them, so I can't pull any favours there... I think most places recycle them, but they must get past there best at some point.

Try looking in yellow pages, under water coolers, also your local
supplier may have a web page. The bottles have stickers in the side saying
who supplies them. I tried contacting local companies
ages ago to try to get chipped and cracked ones they would be dumping.
I got nowhere though.

I know they're not as big but we get sweet bottles from a local shop, cut the bottoms off and use them for mini cloches, don't know if they'd be o.k. for you ?  :)

We use water cooler bottles at work but we have to pay a deposit on them - about £3 I think so I don't think many people will be giving them away though as you say they must get damaged ones which they can't reuse.

Good idea though.  :)

I would use a jigsaw, it would go through it quite easy.

I have just one  :(  a skip find.

It was badly damaged in one corner. I used a variety of saws
to saw the bottom off which took just a few minutes.

I've got a little cordless dremel for such things ;)

I want to get one buried half way up in the corner of each bed of mine (a mix of raised and wooden bordered) (or will be when I put them in) as a watering system with a seep hose. All I have to do is fill the corner tanks every once in a while and that should take care of the hotter times or the lack of visits over busy work periods. If I cut the bases of well I should be able to re-use with a little modification as lids ;)

I have tried, but as said before, there is a deposit on the bottles so companies tend to take care of them.

Yes As EJ says the company that uses them is charged for any that ar not replaced - they are reused and sealed - you could try the suppliers but to be honest would not hold your breath -

I "acquired" one a couple of years ago but I wouldn't waste it on the plot, it's far too valuable to me in a different role, it's perfect for brewing Belgian style beer ;D

If the beer is as good as the chocolates you are onto a winner ;D
