I grew some PFA in old compost bags last year but the foliage was HUGE!    Any advice about others I could try - don't mind which kind - with compact foliage.

The RHS recommend earlies for container growing rather than mains.

Charlotte are very flavoursome if you like the waxy salad type, but I don't know about their disease resistance.

we grew swift last year, off Eric and Colleen the year before, did 2 lots in containers, lovely but they did need lots of water, IF it ever stops raining. :)

The same question is being asked elsewhere on A4A - any not very early 1st early is worth a try (the earlier they are the poorer flavour they tend to have).

Have a look at Lady Christl http://www.wcf-phoenix.co.uk/potatopicker/variety.asp?VarietyID=47
