Presumably the chilis will constitute plant material and be subject to import controls

As a matter of fact, just a few weeks ago, I looked up the restrictions of plant materials to and from the U.K. I found a publication "import guidance for the HCME" whatever that means and between EU countries all catagories are unrestricted.

I hope we don't ever have the Euro. I'll keep it brief, because this doesn't really belong in the Edibles section (unless they make chocolate Euro coins!). I'm all for close ties with our Euro neighbours, but I think the Euro politicians are obsessed with making Europe a rival to the US. Trying to make us one economic block just won't work. Already in the UK when financial decisions are made in London, they may be good for South East England, but wrong for the North, or Wales for example. I cannot imagine how Brussels can make an economic decision (like interest rates) when trying to factor how that will affect anywhere from London to Madrid to a rural Greek village. Our economies are just too different, and why not? vive la difference!
Anyhows...can't you just use a Euro credit card to order from UK shops, even if we deal in £s ?

I probably can use a credit card but don't like not having any control over how much I pay and only later find out what the conversion rate was.

ppsstt...they do make choccy Euros!  My kids love 'em cos they do choccy euro notes!  :P
