Allotments 4 All

WELL, I WAS DIGGING TODAY... AND I FOUND A WWII AMERICAN BUTTON. I DON'T KNOW WETHER THE ALLOTMENTS WERE ALLOTMENTS BACK THEN OR FIELDS, BUT EITHER WAY WHAT WAS HE DOING LOSING A BUTTON THERE??? :o STILL HAVE GIVEN IT TO THE LOCAL HISTORY SOICITY FOR PROSTERITY. BY THE THE WAY ALONGSIDE I FOUND A VERY PRETTY WHITE BUTTON WHAT I'D DESCRIBE AS A CARDI BUTTON... SO LONG AS I DON'T FIND THE REST OF THEM :-X

yuk, either way!! my poor plants having to grow there! still on the up side i could get cid to dig over the plot for me  ;D

My only WWII finds have been a couple of bits of shrapnel; given the diameter of the curvature, I think they're bomb fragments. The other thing was some pieces of extremely thick and heavy corrugated which apparently came from an Anderson shelter. A slightly different side of it!

Someone tried to put the shelter on the plot, and it filled with water. Does anyone else know of one being put on an allotment?

I dug up an articulated lorry - it took ages !

BUT
There was an old motorbike under our concrete patio when it was dug up for the extension (was down there at least 20 years that I know of ).

We dug up a William III halfpenny on our plot a few years back.  I think it has to be connected to Bury Lodge, which would have been the only house in the area at that time.  It was found a good way from the only contemporaneous road.

I asked the local history society if they had maps from that time, but drew a blank.

My Anderson shelter bits are horizontal and serving as a huge compost bin., there are lots on our site Deb if you keep your eyes open. We also found a plastic dinosaur... I put him near the pond and called him tiny, but the fox chewed two of his feet off...

ahhhhhhhhhhh i'm not the only one!

My 8yo son is always finding stuff - lots of cows teeth... but last weekend a Aden Protectorate Levies Badge.  Couldnt identify it so i scanned it and set the pic off to a militaria company and they said it was very rare!  Darling son now thinks its worth £100 LMAO!

It was a 1963 Honda complete with numberplate !
Rang the police who did not seem bothered (I wonder why) and told me to put it in the skip !

ok, been bullied into replying...#1 been "stolen" #2 been an insurance claim. it's not down there as hardcore...as my dad told me. an a10 and some bsa's...

must be hard work to bury it...rhubarb is bad enough ::)
