Allotments 4 All

We tried a few "Black Enorma" plants outdoors this year, some in cold frames, some not.  The pix show that the cold frames didn't make that much difference.  "Enorma" is a bit of an exaggeration, but we've just eaten three of them roasted, and they were jolly good.

Impressive - can't even get them to grow in the greenhouse.  :) Maybe I am using the "wrong" variety.

I put four spares in a hot box... like a frame but with no lid... they were doing really well then over the last week or so they have all wilted in turn... as though something had severed the roots...

Wow- they look lovely - me I grew two Black Beauty in my cold greenhouse and nada - The second plant is only now flowering.  The first flowered and then they fell off.  Mmm... back to the drawing board because I really love them.

You did better than me. I had half a dozen mini-aubs about 3-4 inches long, off a dozen Diamond plants. My fault, they should have been kept warm last week.

Good going, Melbourne. I have a feeling that the Thai type ones do better outside - & they are usable when quite small.

That's very impressive :o - was just debating whether to try aubergines outdoors next year, as well as in the wonderful greenhouse ;D ;D ;D Looks like it will definitely be worth a punt, perhaps with the Thai ones as we're a little further north :)

Mine have just flowered from the summer but no fruits growing yet. I wonder if they will this year now.

Sad, but cut your losses?

I think you're too late to get fruit this year, but if you got that far, it's probably worth having another try next. I think it's a case of keeping them warm in spring and getting them off to a really good start.

Mine did brilliantly last year in the conservatory but this year I tried them in the GH & got a very poor harvest.
