Does the house end dry off a bit more slowly than elsewhere? There have been several mornings recently when the balcony was well wet, and not a sign of it anywhere else.

Don't think so Robert, garden backs west, and it's a bungalow. Often the rain will be just along the road and still miss us. Apparently Wakering is the driest place in England.(Don't I know it  ;D)

Digging up potatoes today I could go down 9 inches and it was still bone dry.  :'(

Digging weeds, the soil just powdered into dust.

Hey - today we really ARE getting some rain - been drizzling for a bit this morning, but now - a veritable downpour, thank goodness!

Got some rain last night, hopefully will be enough to fill up the water butts again.  ::) I have given up on rain! But at least it's not as miserably hot as it's been.
This year it's squash.
