I have just received an email telling me that some one has been using my pay pal account from a diffrent ip address & then telling me my account may have been hacked.
It then gave me a link to go to & check the account. As i don't have an account i put an made up email address & pass word & that then went to another page witch asked for all my bank details & "ATM PIN NUMBER" & all other card Numbers.


Just in case some one may bee fooled by this hence the warning

I had it too, can also forward it to spoof@paypal they will then look into it for you, and hopefully stop it

had the same email today, i got one and so did my wife, must be happening to lots of people

Looks like this one is doing the rounds...I had one this afternoon, thought it was a bit odd, so forwarded it to paypay, and it was a spoof!!

I once telephoned Paypal about a query I had regarding another matter but once on the phone I asked them about spoof emails and they told me that when they write to a customer, they will always start the email Dear {insert your full registered name here} and never any other way.  If you receive anything that doesn't use the above, then it's not from them.   They never say Dear Customer, Dear User, Dear Sir, Dear Madam etc etc

I received this too, to both of my email accounts. Dont these people make you wonder? If they're clever enough to do this, why not put their brains to better use?

They're not really that clever, it just takes someone with graphics & IT skills (granted, it's the IT bit that's clever for non-techie folk like me) but what they are is wise about people's potential gullibility.  I'm not saying that anyone here is among the gullible. What I am saying is that most people are law-abiding and honest; to think that someone is automatically out to scam you comes as a shock. It's a sorry state of affairs when one has to become cynical just to stay solvent! :)

Yup, I have just had one.  I have received lots of spoofs over the months, from both paypal and ebay like accounts - all rubbish, and sometimes with viruses attached.  I delete and don't bother opening.

I've also just received the Paypal phishing e-mail that's circulating at the moment, the third this week, the others being from eBay and one from the Halifax (don't even have an account with them!).
  It is best to not click on the links within the e-mails, regardless of whether you put false info in.
  One thing I thought I should mention, the scammers behind the e-mails are able to disclose the real source of where they're coming from and appear to be actually from the company they say they are... ie. not an e-mail address that just looks like it could be related but the actual real addresses. This can be really misleading if, like me, you have safe lists of addresses as these will come into your normal inbox and not to your junkmail.

I've had all three this week, got the paypal one today.Don't have a paypal a/c, don't have an ebay a/c, don't have a Halifax a/c. oh! and this was this strange man in Africa who wanted to give me money, too ::) ;D

Any Emails purporting to be from Paypal, forward them to spoof@paypal.com, or spoof@eBay.com if it claims to be from them. I get all sorts claiming that I've got problems with my accounts, and every one turns out to be fraudulent. I believe they do go after the perpetrators.

I used to get some on my Hotmail account although nothing on my Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook Express :'( ;D Since I tweaked up the filters on my Hotmail account I only get mail from peeps that know me. 8)

Ive just logged onto my emails and had the same one from pay pal, I did log in with my email and password but didnt put any personal details in.

Oh s*** im panicking now, should I log on thru ebay and change password do you think.

Ted, I would definitely go to Paypal.co.uk and change my password.  Even tho you haven't given them any personal data they can now use your Paypal account to buy stuff and that takes money directly from a specified account

Yesterday I had an email supposedly from Halifax.  Dear valued customer, then usual thing. Funny I have never had a Halifax account in my life. Son John has drummed it in to me so much about these spoof emails that I am careful. (I hope).

think Ive sorted it, changed the password then tried logging in with the old one and it wouldnt work...  pheww.

Think its these tablets im taking just not really with it, poor bloke in diy shop earlier must have thought me strange when asked him to count out some angle brackets cos I had been trying to sort out sizes for 5 minutes... look Im babbling and not making sense again  hehe.

I have had an African chap offering me trillions of pounds, if he could just use my bank account.....

And viagra....they want me to have viagra.....but I am a girl.....so what would it do for me......ooo, laughs as she remembers a scene from Dinnerladies.....  :D :D :D
