- I have a greenhouse within spitting distance of my g&t. It has a warm staging.
- I have an expensive propagator. At the correct temperature.
- I have all the time in the world.
- I'm a thinking grower.
- I have a long history of success.

So why the Hell can't I germinate seeds this year?? No matter what, I'm getting 2% of zilch.

What was that word? Oh, yes - Patience. There's always tomorrow.
If I have that long!!

I have found that sometimes if you sow later then you get a better germanation rate as there is more light and more natural warmth in the daytime to aid germanation. So if you did sow reasonably early with only medioker results then it is a good Idea to try again now. I sowed some basil on march the 3rd and it has only just started to show any sing of growth ::) So please Tim dont think you are the only one who is having trouble. I took 2 and a half week for the tomatoes to appear. I thought they where gonners, but if by magic they appeared when I thought all hope was lost. The idea is have faith and dont give up  :)

the one thing i seem to have success with is germinating seeds.  what on earth happens after that is anyone's guess.

my best place is the south facing heated lounge windowsill, maybe because i refuse to turn the central heating down ?  ::)

Well for me normally Basil, no chance and aubergines, enough...this year a plantation of basil, and now, not an aubergine in sight!

i too have a very hot lounge and its my first time sowing anything - i have toms, cucumber, cougettes, water melon and sweetcorn - all alive and kicking  :o ..it must have something to do with the central heating - as i refuse to turn it off. ;)

me too, too d**n cold to turn it off atm.  i excuse myself by having the second bedroom unheated and move the little darlings in there as soon as they've poked their heads up (more or less).

mind you it ain't all good as evidenced by my extremely long gangly but still holding their own courgettes.

mind you when the next leccy bill comes in, i'm sure i'll hit the switch but by then, the weather should be a little better.

Just shows what a good complain will do?

The lettuce sown a couple of days before are all through - at the 4th attempt!!

Well I am definitely struggling with poor germination - so at least I can feel comforted by knowing I am in good company. It was mentioned that the season is possibly late because Easter is late ... I am beginning to believe this may have some truth !
The impossible is just a journey away ...
