This happens on almost every site. My son runs a site for sign makers and the number of members who registered (by the nature of their business checks are made to prove they are genuine sign making businesses) does not reflect the members who post.. Like Eric has pointed out the same applies to A4A.

Also remember that the first to join will have found the site unhelpfully quiet and wandered off to what were at the time busier sites.

A group I run has nearly 800 members with around 2000 posts a week. After two years, there are only 5 or 6 of the original members left ( we opened the site with 30 members transferring from a group that was closing). I suspect the number of people active hasn't risen much from when we had 100 members, certainly the post count has been pretty static.

Palustris

603 people appear to have joined in  the first year. I will do a chart when I learn how.

This is a very interesting thread and I would think there is a lot of socialogical value in studying data like this.  Very telling in many ways.

A chart of members joining in the first year.
The red shows the people who joined and the green is the number who posted at least one message after joining.

Eric. I find that quite interesting. Have been scrolling backwards and forwards to make comparisons. DOH!!! Why didn't I think of printing out, have now done so. Thanks for spending your time on theses statistics.

Palustris

Interesting to see that 2394 people joined between 12 midday and 12 midnight (PM) while only 753 joined between Midnight and 12 noon (AM).

Was that before or after the reform of licensing hours?

778 of those joining PM posted while 402 of those joining AM have posted, making it a slightly higher percentage of those who joined in a morning having something to say.

I know nothing of licensing hours at all, sorry.

The final chart, unless someone has any other questions to ask.
This chart shows the number of postings against the number of members. So for example 878 members have posted 1 to 9 messages.
