YES, the price has come down recently as it has increased in popularity, so now is the time to sign up, when it is cheapest!!
I LOVE OP AMPS!

Svea

apart from speed, the main advantage is that you still have use of your phone even when online. this annoyed me greatly about dial-up

check www.adslguide.org.uk for a comparision of not only the prices, but also the services, bit rates/speed of broadband and customer satisfaction.

PS: the first thing we did when we got broadband ages ago was spend about 4 hours browsing ebay ;D

I agree with the pro broadband group

much more reliable for downloading
no dialling
need good firewall and AV software though

My recommendation, go for it

Avoid BT like the Black Death though!

I have been broadband for four years and I would not be without it now.  I do need to use the internet a lot for work and a lot of my work is at home.  Nowadays, I am moreorless permanently online with at least a couple of browser windows open - work ones and leisure ones like A4A.  I find having the opportunity just to stop working ands instantly 'switch channels' a great bonus in the brain break stakes.

I don't know if I am off tangent here ..........will broadband go the same way as
dial up.......... ie..   more people take it my thinking is at has to slow it down
slightly.... ::) or am I barking up the wrong tree...... ??? I went with wanadoo
  ok so far.

Rosa_Mundi

Agree with the pro-broadband group. However, would also say that have used BT for a couple of years with no problems and no complaints, so don't reject them out of hand.

Svea

jaggy thistle,

to a certain point you are right. there will be a number of people sharing a broadband 'node' and hence overall, their maximum speed must be reduced slightly. hwever, considering that dial-up is usually 28 or 56bps, and broadband (even the slowest) is at least 10 times faster (and that is a slow broadband connection), i dont think you will find this a huge disadvantage.

only large businesses can afford their own 'private' nodes - but even then you have maybe 2000 employes all sharing - it's not an issue at all :)

Another yes to Broadband. As I am on my own now the family like to give me a ring to make sure I am OK. (the ones who haven't got a PC) I did have a few CHOICE complaints saying  can never get you by phone. Son said for the extra £3per month for goodness sake go on to Broadband. I love it. Lorna.

Tel - It's a definite YES from me.  It is well worth the money paid and you can use the phone AND the internet at the same time!
Go for it  ;D ;D

And I believe you are free of these phone jackers who use your phone line and run up a massive bill if you are not careful. :o

Agree about BT...and as I live not far from a library, I use their free Broadband service, and their electricity for an hour a day, tho posting not allowed. Then at home am on dial up Tiscali 5 daytimes a week for £60 a YEAR. Ok for the retired. A good ISP and even automatic re-dial up after 2 hrs.

Marianne

Roy you are right but in fact I have had to call BT to ask they put a stop to any "090", "091" numbers which is FREE.  And it works very well thank God!
;D ;D ;)
