honeybee

Had one for my brekkie this morning  :P

wardy

I was shocked to find mangoes in my local supermarket yesterday.  The most exotic fruit they normally have is grapes  ;D
I came, I saw, I composted

BAGGY

Tim, why is there one missing in the middle row.  Couldn't wait huh ? :P

I eat a mango a day, so that is very good news Tim! ;D

Sorry to be so ignorant, but what's the big fuss? Is it the Alphonos bit? Are they the best mango in the world?

I truly believe so - they are only available here for about a month and, even then, need to be eaten quite quickly. They tend to be picked fairly ripe.

Used to have a tree outside my HQ. Cosy?

Oh, & don't forget mango icecream.

Oh, & the colour!!

Diana

So where's best to get them?

I'm guessing HQ wasn't UK!

Oh, + what's your ice-cream recipe then?

D

Do you know, I love almost all fruits and vegs, but just cannot stomach the taste, texture and aroma of Mangos!  Pawpaws are another I don't like.  However, gorgeous colour!

You're not alone, Emma. Shame for you!

Diana - 1. Asian stores. They're marked down at the moment at the end of the season. 2. No, Bihar. 3. Don't have a 'mine' - plenty on Google, but I use Mamta's.

Baggy - colour, yes, but that was a fresh one for my supper. The icecream is naturally paler.

PS When I said 'they're in', I think I should have said 'they're almost out!!'. Just that daughter in London hadn't been past the store for some time.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmangoes.

love them!
gone to pot :D

gavin

Yup - mmmmmaaaaaaaannnnnnnggggggooooooeeeees!

Fond memories of mangoes straight from the tree, ooooh shivers down the spine stuff.

Even fonder memories of grandmothers telling OLD tales to kids under a mango tree in Senegal - the original Brer Rabbit stories, and a few others.

And ??? memories of the open air market flooded with over-ripe mangoes, just as the hot season hit its hottest.  Grahame Greene's seediest descriptions have NOTHING on Kaolack in July :(

Aaaah - the juice slipping down my chin into my beard :).

Thanks for the reminder, Tim - all best, Gavin

BAGGY

Best enjoyed in the garden making as much slurping noises as poss whilst you dribble the juice down your front and get all sticky.  It's the only way to eat them.  That and water melon.

Gotta spit the watermelon pips as far as you can though Baggy!

The answer to sticky fronts, Baggy, was to de-robe & eat it in the monsoon rain outside your basha hut!

BAGGY

Betcha still sluuuurped it though eh Tim ?  I used to scoff them in Sri Lanka and get in an awful mess but MIL drew the line at me stripping off  ;D ;D ;D ;D
Ooooh those and baby pineapple with salt.  Yum.

'My' Wren (before my Wife, who was AA) was stationed in Trincomalee. Those days!! Still prefer Sri Lankan curries.

tim

Forgot to say 'don't forget the lime juice'!!

BAGGY

Tim.  If you ever want to pick my brains for Sri Lsnkan curries - holler  ;D
