This may sound a silly question but which design of bird scaring device have you found most effective?

I have tried the CD discs...they fly in and out of those!

Humming twine..a colleague has some and says it makes a wonderful perch

I have heard of simulating birds of prey..with chicken feathers etc.

What prompted this post is a picture in kitchen garden magazine which show a bunch of what looked like plastic strips tied to a cane...I have seen this on our allotment site that had added small bells which tinkle in the wind

Are these durable, do they work?

Perhaps I should resort to building a traditional scarecrow.

They may not be effective but they look pretty  ;)

Cd's attracted the Jays and Magpies!
Pop bottles made into spiney whistling devices didn't last a stormy day.

You have a number of options -
1)  Modify, delete and deny everything
2)  Claim temporary insanity
3)  Modify by adding a smiley and claiming it was a joke
4)  Brazen it out

Either way, I don't fancy your chances....

Anyway, back to the original topic... :) :)

I'm thinking of making a proper scarecrow this year too, will have to rope my 7, 8, and 10 year old brothers-in-law in to it too  ;D
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

Someone put my posts in the wrong topic.....Hello, hello....is there a witch in the house?

If so, go back into the garden.

I weave a criss-cross of twine across the bed.

Use dark coloured twine or wool, so the pigeons don't see it until it's too late - they do NOT like to catch their wings by surprise, and don't come back.  The CDs on other plots are much safer, and act like an invitation!

All best - Gavin
