Went to the allotment today to find several sweetcorn plants broken or partially dug up.
The sweetcorn had been opened and partially nibbled.
I have a resident fox.
Any ideas/

Errrm, fox? If your plants were broken then it has to be a largish animal. You wouldn't notice mouse or rat damage until you looked inside the sheath. Same goes for pollenation errors. How about a badger, do you have those?
Didn't grow any this year, and can't say I've missed them. :happy11:
Smile, it confuses people.

Badgers love sweetcorn, I always protect mine, though this year there has not been as much damage.

what about deer?  We have had problems with those this year.

For the first time ever we have damage done by foxes... I've even seen them at it. We don't have badgers or deer either. The concensus is that the lack of fallen plums and so on has driven them to it... I've put a wire fence round mine as they take them about 2-3 days before they are "ready"  :BangHead:

We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

Foxes on our plot, started last year, just as the corn was ready.

We grew our corn in a fruit cage this year, but the foxes have been back and visited others.
Best laid plans and all that

Ah, so that's what's eaten and trampled all if mine! My plots were covered in chewed cobs, I never got to taste one this year .... :angryfire: :angry5: :angry5: :angry5: :angry5: :angry5: :angry5:
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

I have put this picture up before but just in case you missed it this is what a badger left of the best sweetcorn I have ever had. He climbed the fence.

some of my sweetcorn got eaten by a sheep!
we've got a witness.
Two of them dropped by for a visit. The fence got fixed since then.

A flying sheep?
