Picture the scene...

I Was at G.C a couple of weeks ago with hubby and no.2 child.

Child = 6 yrs old and a budding allotment enthusiast.

Husband = NGOH  (None Gardening Other Half for the un-initiated!)

We were sitting having a cup of tea when, during conversation, the

NGOH suddenly declared :

" IVE DECIDED I NEED TO CHANGE MY LIFESTYLE SO I'M GOING TO

START HELPING YOU WITH THE ALLOTMENT"

:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

There is still hope for all NGOH's out there...!!!

Tell him that he has made the right decision. = Tim

Just hope he doesn't mean leaning on a spade and giving you advice!!  ::)

EILEEN.

Life is like nectar sweet but sometimes sticky.

take it before he changes his mind! ;)

Great news Debs. My NGOH is now a DOH (Digging other half). He's not really interested in learning about the plants (although he'll happily listen to me waffling on about them!) but he's great for putting to work - he digs, does all the hefting, chops things up for the compost. I wouldn't like it if he started taking over, which, fortunately he doesn't!
gone to pot :D

Tim - I keep reminding him and my son is really excited that his Dad is finally

getting involved. I am sure that it will be a 'son teaching father type

bonding session ;D ;D as he is probably more informed than his father!!!

Eileen / Aquilega,  Yes that was my worry too!!  I have already mentioned that I need paths laid out and although he would never agree, I am sure that he is secretly looking forward to being involved and tasting the fruits of his labour.

Debs :).

With Mr Aqui, I find it's best to give him a job that he can get on with by himself, so he doesn't start to think that what I'm doing looks like fun. So instructions to dig a hole from here to here or chop this up for the compost heap work well. Beware of NGOHs offering to do the weeding. It never works (unless you like eating dandelions and want to sacrifice your parsnips, lettuce, carrots, etc to the compost!)
gone to pot :D

How cool.

I am not sure if I have a NGOH or a DOH yet as we are both new to allotmenteering.

We have one spade so I said he should go out and buy himself a spade of choice so we can get at the digging together when the cold wet snap ceases. Of course I will be in charge !!!

Good point that Aqui ;D

Have suffered from weeding disaster when no.1 child 8 year old daughter

weeded all of my parsnips  :o

Shall take note of your advice and give manual jobs at first !! paths to be made; compost turned :(  posts for raspberry canes.....

My OH is agreeing to help me digging and is (under duress) helping me to go collect a greenhouse on Sunday, so I guess I shouldn't moan too much).  But it would be nice if he actually enjoyed it.
He has shown an interest in making beverages, saw elderberry champagne mentioned in a book the other day and his ears perked up  ;D)

I seem to be in the minority here, but I like the fact that mine is a definate NGOH!  It means the plot is mine............. mine I tell you! (evil laugh!)
Tis my place to get away from them all, and do whatever I like without any "helpfull" suggestions, and I can try and be a builder/carpenter/labourer without anyone laughing at my efforts!  ;D  ;D  ;D
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

Well said Doris, everyone is entitled to their space and you’ve found it and put it to good use and I’ll bet your building, carpentering and labouring skills more than satisfy your needs, good for you Gal.

P.S. Loved the Evil Laugh
;D

Apple Dumpling

Mr Dumpling is a NGOH, but a great fan of BBT (big boys toys) which is great for me. It means that he'll visit the allotment for playing, sorry I meant using the rotavator or the strimmer, or he'll happily build a shed or a pallet compost bin but he draws the line at planting veg ( or indeed cooking them). This suits me fine as it's more gardening for me. He He.  ;D
Who planted all these weeds?

Mrs Ava

heheheh Dumpling, seems like I have one just like yours!  ;D
