This has to be the best birthday present I have received to date. ;D The fit young men are the partners of my daughters and of course my grandaughter Jess who helped no end ;D
They took the grass from the top of my new 1/2 plot thereby saving me loads of work. They were slightly worried that people would think they were doing community service, but my dear daughter told them that it is more likely that they would be thought to be 'helping the aged' ::) ;D
Needless to say they were rewarded with a Sunday roast.

glad you got it sorted, maggie and HAPPY BURFDAY  ;D

Emagggie

Fanks Mal, it was a few weeks ago, but too dry here then. The sorting of the new plot was easy peasy in the end. Our Allotment sec (to the council) has obviously got new medication and has changed overnight into a very nice chap!!!! ;D

no need to worry that folk might think they are doing community service!!
the scheme has been renamed 'community payback', and they wear Hi-Vis jackets with this displayed on the back!(we got them clearing some derelict plots for our associationj) ;)
You couldn't make it up!

Emagggie

That's a thought Tony, I will mention it to my 'new best friend' re. the clearing of the junk heap next to my new plot.
I prefer Help the Aged though ;D
(Do hope I've got all my punctuation right this time, don't want to be standing outside the classroom again ;D ;D)

what a great present! So what have you got planned for the new part of your plot?  :D

Emagggie

Weeeeeeeeell, a lavender hedge first, then the new runner bean arrangement made by my brother, melon pit in a cold frame, oh loads of exciting ideas. I go to sleep planning, ::) I have books on the table at meal times (how rude, my girls are/were never allowed to do this ;D). Hoping for good weather tomorrow for soil preparation.

To be fair Tony, I did spend a fair amount of time outside the classroom door ;D ;)

you and me, both  ;D ;D ;D

It all sounds great - particularly the melon pit! Which interests me, as everyone I know grows them in standard greenhouses, so let us know how you get on

Will do Tony, researching as I type ;D
Just seen your signature btw., Can't imagine Southend without a pier. There's something magical about piers. It would be a crime not to re-open yours. I have signed. ;)

Oh no Mal, not you :o ;D ;D ;D

I take it you mean Hastings Pier  ;)   And a big thank you for signing the petition  ;D  ;D  ;D

Emagggie

Yes I do. I remember Hastings as a step back in time last time I visited. I live in Southend ;D

It's been a while since I went to Southend - used to go there when I lived in London. Always a great day out  :D
