Hello...... :)

I've been looking at the forums for a few weeks and  thought it was about time I joined......

I'm quite new to all this...only ever having grown herbs, salad toms, peppers etc......

Thing is...I'm moving to a new house soon and the garden is a decent size and i was like ''Yay!!! '' until I found out it was  north -facing   :-\

So i'm probably gonna be on here moaning and asking for help on a weekly basis..........lol

Thinking of acquiring some chickens as well......

Hiya Tommytomato, good to have you on board. I had a north facing garden too, but I couldnt grow anything nice as it was a rented house :(

There are things you can grow........ ;)
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

  Hi Tommy, if I may call you that !     ;D   Hi,

  Do say I have trouble with my north facing front garden,  have been trying to grow the usual summer

  flowers, but they either struggle or grow too many leaves to try and survive,   will say that

  there are many experianced folk on here  --  so will watch with interest !

  There are many people on this planet who are north facing   ---   some  one must have the answers !

  Beyond me I'm afraid  ---    ::)

Welcome to A4A T,Tomato.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
                      "What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
                    "Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Wow..thanks for the welcome..... ;D

A north -facing is that bad huh?

I don't need to be that 'prolific' ,on my own now...kids flown the coop.....(see that chicken joke already?...ya reckon i'm gonna fit in here?)

I was thinking of some raised beds down the bottom....with some toms and beans growing up against the far end wall...

It's quite a long garden...so here's hoping..... ::)

Hi Tommy and welcome.  A friend of mine has a south facing back garden which is too hot so she is growing her veg in grow bags in the front and it is all doing great especially butternut squash and salads and lots of herbs - give it a go you won't know till you try  :)

Best news I've had since I found out it was North -facing.....

fuchsias will love the north facing garden, and don't forget, even north facing gardens get the sun from the east and west at certain times of the day!!
oh, and welcome to the madhouse!! ;)

You couldn't make it up!

Some crops do better in cooler conditions so don't dispair:

Spinach
Lettuce
Coriander
Wild Garlic (if you cna get hold of some bulbs).
Blackberries/Raspberries are woodland edge plants so they can grow quite well without diirect sunlight all day.
Software for Vegetable Growers:
The VGA Live!

Ohh so I might have a great garden then?

Godfrey....I did have some wild garlic in  the garden I have now...quite expensive it was  too..I left someone to check on the house while  I was on holiday and and they 'weeded'  :o    the borders for me(bless them for 'helping' ) resulting in no more wild garlic....   :'(
