Mine aren't up yet. I hope they do emerge!

medicinejack

Mine aren't up either, but I am in the south Wales valleys.
Covered them with a thin layer of manure.
What did you do, if anything, to encourage early growth?

BAK

This is one of my favourite days of the year ... about to tuck into the first asparagus pickings of the season (Cito which is early) ... with the promise of 6 weeks of gorging on them.

Suzanne

MIne aren't up yet either. But then just outside Rugby so don't expect them till end of April or early May. This will be my first full six week harvest as well - the crowns were planted in 2005.

Pescador

Hi, Tin Shed,

If its the first year since planting, you shouldn't be harvesting anything.
The crowns need to establish and build up strength.
Thought the earliest recommended harvest was year 3 or 4.
Like us on Facebook. Paul's Preserves and Pickles.
Miskin, Pontyclun. S. Wales.
Every pickle helps!

They look great!! Good to know you had so much success from the seeds, will go and buy a packet on Monday (and start the 4 year countdown!).

Cant wait to see this years youtube video of your plot George, have found your site very useful I must say thanks.

artichoke

That looks wonderful - mine are so far just the skinny ones, even after 6 years....  How do you feed them?

RosieMcPosie

How exciting for you all, whenever I see asparagus around the site, I just start to dribble! We started ours from seed last year, so have quite a while left yet! x
proud owner of a lottie since August 2007!

Tin Shed

Don't worry, Pescador - they have been in for three years, its the first year for harvesting :)

Lady of the Land

I have had my asparagus in for 2 years. 1st year cameup very thin shoots (did not touch). This year (2nd) there are some very fat shoots- I am just watching again with a view to cutting some next year. The waiting is very hard as so tempting to cut it.

THE MASTER

i wounder who has the oldest asparagus plant

i moved into my house in 1984 and every year in the front garden up popps a few sprigs of asparagus. i neaver put it in so i have no idea how old it realy is.

;D but know i know wot it is  ;D
HE WHO DARES WINS !!!

medicinejack
