New to growing - silly question about seed trays

Hi everyone. Please be kind - this is my first post.
Last year I got into the idea of growing veg, but it was too late in the year really and it wasn't a success. this year I ambeing more organised - bought my seeds, dug over my beds, planned out my planting and my pototoes have been chitting for two weeks.
Looking through the stuff I bought last year, I have uncovered some seed trays, but I don't understand them. I have propagator lids and two different types of trays - half have holes in the bottom and half don't. Is there a reason for this. I'm sure there's a very obvious answer - I just don't know it yet.

Yes, and welcome to the site...
The ones without holes are probably slightly bigger and can be used under the others to allow the plants to "soak", it can be difficult to keep seed trays moist (not damp) enough...  :)

..... and it's usually better to water seedlings from underneath to minimise the danger of 'damping off' (a fungal infection).

Hi Jd,

I know what you mean about different types of seed trays basically the ones with holes are for growing in and those without holes are carrier trays doubling up as watering trays.

I find watering established seedlings easy with the little heads that screw on to a 2ltr pop bottle.

I was given them as a present Mowhay, not seen them since. If you know where to get them I would appreciate the info.
