Well for me anyway, does anyone know why LONG TAILED TITS, arrive in groups of 15/20, stay about 5/10seconds then fly off again , do the same on the return journey. ??? ???   PS  I know they always fly in groups .

no idea but they are pretty  ;D

We get them in the garden but we dont have time to get the camera out. We just managed to take this one through the window. They were the last of the flock
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

SamLouise

I always thought it was because long tailed tits fly about in their little (or big!) families?

PS why is this an important question? LOL  ;D

rosebud

It is important to me because i need to know OK. ::) ::) ;D

Safety in numbers with the long tailed tits.  However, I seem to have a straggler, he/she stays longer and misses the rest leaving.  He/she gets them the next time they call   ;D ;D ;D

They didn't turn up for  the Bird Count  pah!!!

They stay only as long as it takes to clean up the available food on each tree or bush. It's more energy efficient to grab easy pickings before moving on rather than searching for hidden prey. The long-tailed tits are often joined by other tit species and the gang can get quite large. Always noisy.

Ahhhhhhhhhh,
Found a LTT by the side of a lane whilst out walking.
Picked it up carefully & placed in a small bed of picked grass stalks on the verge away from the road. Not a lot one can do?
Eskimo Nel was a great Inuit.

If you google "long tailed tits" there are some very interesting items about how they sleep in clusters to keep warm etc. I have beentrying for some time to get a good photo through our window this is the best so far. I think you can just make out 10. You can enlarge by clicking on the photo for easier counting

laurieuk I am so envious, even my few Goldfinches seem to have deserted my garden.

(sorry Mary hi-jacking your thread)
