We always have sprouts at Christmas as hubby loves them, but anyone got any recipes to liven them up a little ?

Cook your brussels as usual, but perhaps add some cripsy bacon and onions for serving. Delishhhhhhhhhh  ;D

Add a good tablespoon of honey to the water as they are boiling. this adds a hint of sweetness and takes off the bitter edge.

Hugh f-w added garlic and butter, sweated off and the sprouts rolled around in it  :P

Steam or boil your sprouts MINUS one minute. Remove from pan, cut the sprouts from top to bottom. Heat a frying pan (not red hot, medium heat) with one tablespoon of oil (of choice). Place the sprouts cut side down. Lightly brown. Stir sprouts gently, then add grated cheese (of choice) and serve immediately... Mmmm delish

I like walnuts steamed with mine and then tossed in butter
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Yep this is bloomin loverly. Had 'em this way last year :D
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

Hyacinth

You love them - or you don't? Seems your husband DOES 8) Personally, I don't like my fave foods "livened up", ie mucked around or whatever? Those miniature Little Winter Gems are little jewels orl by themselves 8)...praps just tossed in butter & pepper before serving?

Last year, tho, when I ate with peeps who didn't appreciate the beauty of unadulturated sprouts ::).....we had them with bacon bits and almonds.

B7jac

Thanks everyone ! some great ideas.

I particularly like the sound of Lauren S bacon bits and onions ! and also the one with the cheese but perhaps not on a Christmas dinner ! Think I will give the first one a try this year ! can't wait !

Yes Hyacinth I know what you mean but I was just looking for something a little different not a complete wipe out of their own unique taste, cos in our house brussels are always on the Christmas dinner plate !! like em or lump em !! lol
(ps I do love em too!)

Tried this last night - it was lovely.  Makes meal in itself.
