Garlic sprouting yet?

Did anyone plant garlic in the autumn and if so has your garlic started to shoot through yet? I went to my allotment last week and the onion sets that someone gave me (with instructions to plant in the autumn) have made a good appearance already but not a single sign if any garlic. I was wondering if they have rotted as I do have a fairly heavy soil or if I am just being impatient. If they have failed then I'll try again in the spring.

Think I'm in the same position as you, although the onion sets went in weeks before the garlic, so it's not surprising that they're up.

Garlic sown in October in pots, is about 4 to 6 inches tall now, see the pest and disease board for a picture.

Garlic sown in November is only just showing a small tip, but the roots are already out of the pot. I believe garlic put out a more extensive root sustem than onions so must of the activity is below ground to start with. Also garlic is planted 2 inches deep where as onions are only just below the surface  so the garlic will take longer to show its head.

Nothing showing in my part of Essex yet Jesseveve, but mine did go in late, well into November.  As I recall, last years didn't show at all until into the new year, I had given up all hope.  The shallots were also real slow, but this time they are doing the business early on, so long as the darn rot ignores them!  >:(

yep, showing couple of inches growth, shallots are forest-like! but then i did put them in quite early............!

I put mine in in November. I planted two varieties - one early, one late. The earlies have all sprouted, but no sign of the lates yet.

Planted early nov onions and garlic have both sprouted, and on heavy clay soil too.

Went up today to take a peek, some are up, some are not! Maybe it depends on the variety?

When to the allotment again today to build my compost bin and on taking another look at my garlic I noticed a few only just poking through the soil so looks like they are on their way, just me being impatient again.

I planted mine back in October (I think ???) I too worried that it had failed as it took ages to come up, but eventualy it did (well most of it). I now have some nice little 'tufts' of garlic leaves in the bed they are planted in.

Went up Christmas Eve and low and behold, garlics are through!  Lovely thick turgid green shoots.  Hope they do okay after the rust then the white rot the previous crop suffered.  Already lost one leek to the dreaded rot!  >:(
