Just thought I'd say Hi, been reading for a while, and as have just aquired new plot thought I'd say Hi to everyone.  Too hot to plot today, but have been to check & want to know why the grass grows faster than the plants :o

A perennial problem (no pun intended!) established weeds grow faster than planted out stuff as they have all the root system in the soil... and some spent all winter sending out good roots...  ;D

Hi Sazarella, welcome to the mad house - and when you find out the answer to that question feel free to let me know because my couch grass has taken on a life of it's own and is clearly plotting world domination within the next 72 hours!  My take on it is if it grows really fast then it's a weed, if it doesn't then it's veg!  ;D

Hi all,

sorry for the abscence waging war on the weeds lol!

I'm based in Sheffield, lots of rain, wind and the odd bit of sun.

all seems to be coming along, think I might end up with a glut of leeks planted 155  out the other week!! didn't look that many in the trough, good job we like them ;D.  the plot is one quite a steep slope and is very stoney, so not much hope for carrots and the like just yet.  Opted for this one as we thought it would be quite free draining in the event that we get any repeat of the rains of last summer.  No standing water.

Also got lots of potatoes in, which all seem to be coming up ok, more to break the soil up, & if we get a crop so much the better.  Took on a very overgrown sloping plot, will try & post some pics when i get the hang of it.

Inherited, 3 massive rhubarb plants, 3 goosberry bushses, and what I've been told are Autumn fruiting raspberries - can't wait!!!

Hi, missed the original post - but hopefully not to late to say hello.  :)

"Autumn Fruiting" in raspberries can be a bit of a misnomer... mine (Autumn Bliss) have often started before the end of July... but they do carry on until the frosts... the biggest advantage is you can just cut them all down at the end of the year as they fruit on new wood grown in spring... ( you can't cut the wrong canes out by mistake!!)
