Shot Holes

Radishes, rocket, swede all have shot holes on the leaves. These appear almost instantly once the seed has germinated.

Has anyone any idea how to overcome this problem?

This happened to my rocket and radishes too. I'm fairly sure it's flea beetle that is the culprit. The radishes survived - although they weren't great, but the rocket was hopeless. You could try derris dust, but I think the best advice is to sow under fleece, and that is what I will try next year.

Yup, I agree, sounds like the dreaded flea beetle.  Did the same to me, so yup, under fleece.  I tried derris, but it did nuffink, and then I was too worried to eat the darn stuff!  My radishes didn't seem to suffer, and my rocket went to seed almost instantly so it didn't matter.  My Pak Choi, useless!  :'(

It's not too late to re-sow.

If you think you have problems - how about this? For our winter cabbages, it IS!! =  Tim

Oh Tim, what happened there?

Oh, sorry - I said it elsewhere - the b.....y beetle! Radishes & cabbages. Even those tiny leaves were riddled.
And that was in a cold frame, 4' above ground. Never thought to cover them. And the cabbage had been brought on under lights to catch up. Not pleased. = Tim

PS And now they've got my rows of red & green kale!! And the swedes. Never had this prob before on such a scale. Getting too old to fleece everything.
