At the end of march my daughter wanted to (play) sow something so i gave her pots and some dwarf french beans 'the prince' - all have germinated and doing rather well but now outgrowing their pots and looking eager to get going. Too early for outside?? (in south wales BTW)

in the green tray 2 weeks ago, next to the sunflowers she also planted - not bad for a 2 year old

I put mine out yesterday, as they were the same size.

It may be too early, and expert will be along soon.

Keep saying - if in doubt...........

My runner bean seed went into individual pots last weekend......my dwarf French beans about 2 hours ago.Things are growing quickly now we are having some decent spells of sunshine......including the weeds  ;D

Hopefully,by the time they are ready to go out, there will be no more danger of frost.

Some on our plot have there runer beans out now but go to great lengths to make sure they are frost protected last thing at night.

The next few days should not be a problem if you plant them out now - BUT if you can, have something ready to cover them should it turn cold again. I remember we have had a couple of years with thick snow end of May (although it did melt fast).

i think i'll start acclimatising them to outside the greenhouse now and plant next week maybe later. though i do suspect with the sunny weather forcast for the next week they are going to be straining in the pots soon

I put my first dozen out on sunday!
You couldn't make it up!

Mine haven't germinated yet!! but I do see sign of this i.e. the compost has heaved up.

I put a wigwam of runners out last week and one of green beans and peas yesterday (just as a taster as i'm sooo impatient)......easy enough to protect if weather turns..........sowed larger amounts of everything today.

The soil is probably warm enough, but I've covered the ones I planted out yesterday (The Prince & a couple of Italian varieties) with a cloche, because they are only a few inches tall.

I'm leaving the first lot of climbing beans to fend for themselves but it's a bit fingers crossed.

Hi all,

My runner beans are out in the soil since yesterday, They started life in loo roll tubes in the greenhouse and I was going to wait for two more weeks but they are ready for the big wide world. I have completely wrapped them in plastic though.

I have lots of beans germinating in the greenhouse and they will all go out over the next couple of weekends. (This is the first spring I`ve had a greenhouse, I love it  ;D )

I am refreshed by the rain and the dew
And by thoughts of you...

Mine are just germinating in pots (inc the borlotties - thanks barnowl!)

I think there should always be a "take a chance batch".........with mabey a make do clotch over night..........mine have been out for 2 weeks but protected overnight...I have now taken the protection off though as its superb weather here on the southcoast

tim

South Coast? Wish!!

Here, I leave the cover on till the end of May. Nothing gained in taking it off.

Mine are only bumps in the compost; the first will probably be out in the light tomorrow. I'll be putting them out around the end of the month, unless I have reason to worry about late frosts.

PurpleHeather

I checked the met report for the next 14 days and decided to chance it.

They don't take long to grow so if they do get 'cream crackered' can start again.

saddad

I'm planting out in the first week in June, and not a day before...
