Crocosmias dissappointing- again!

At almost exactly this time last year I posted about my crocosmias which had gone brown and not flowered, and everyone agreed it was the hot weather. This year the leaves are fine but there are very few flowers- and they have certainly had plenty of water! How are anybody else's doing? (it was Rosebud's pics of her lovely specimens that reminded me to ask the question).

Mine have only 4 flower spikes compared with 10 last year. Must be the weather. I have noticed that the monbretia that always signals the ending of the season for me has been in flower for a couple of weeks now

My first-time flowering crocosmia Lucifer has produced GLADIOLI!

Ours were rampant as usual Caroline, but they were fine in the hot last year as well...


We have loads as overspill on the next lottie if you want to try some new corms!

I once heard that you need to split the clumps every so often, or they will stop flowering.

I've only just started growing Crocosmia, Caroline, so I haven't really got any ideas what might be wrong.  However, if you have plenty of leaves but no flowers perhaps the soil is a bit too fertile?  Might be worth being a bit crueller?

Thank you for your nice comment Caroline, my Lucifer poor things were stuck in pots for weeks because when we moved we wanted to take some with us , so maybe as Georgie said be a bit cruel.  Having said that ours do always flower pretty well i neither feed or water them just leave them to nature really, take up Sadad`s offer & try some new cormes different place in your garden see what happens do let us know next year.  Rosebud.

Don't think I could be much more cruel! Nothing in my garden gets much attenetion since I got my allotment, and they are competing with quite a few other plants competing with them, which may be the problem. They flowered well the first year. But yes, will let you know next year!

Another thought- do they grow well in pots? That might be the only way i can find another space for them! Or I could take some to the allotment.
