It's interesting reading although you have to trawl nearly right to the end to find out what the tomato is 'joyful' about and what the big secret is  ;)

Has anyone tried this method? My FIL strips them when the fruits are on but this bloke seems to be saying you strip them BEFORE that!

Wonder if he makes them little outfits to cover their modesty :D

Ah, yes - talk about whetting ones appetite?

It’s a simple case of energy re-direction. The tomato plant needs only 3 leaves to assimilate carbon-dioxide and absorb the sun’s energy. The rest of the leaves are un-necessary. They’re dead waste.

When you correctly remove the right leaves from the plant as it grows, all the energy that would normally be used to growing and sustaining the thick tomato branches and the bushy leaves goes right into the fruit. The tomato plant then produces more fruit, the fruit grows quicker, and the fruit is much tastier!

So you're now committed to buying the book. Or are you going to risk it??

Sour red balls! :o  I'm saying nowt! Except that i do usually take quite a few leaves off my tom plants, just to give me a better idea of what they're up to without having to search and therefore make them all fall over.

I'm going to 'experiment' on one of the 200 tomato plants my FIL has raised from seed  ;D I'm sure he won't miss one ... I'll hide it somewhere!

There was someone on here last year who [iandvertantly I think] stripped all the leaves from their plants & posted the pic.  Wonder if he/she got any more growing.

Sounds interesting. As a newbie I'm happy to try it out with you. :) Once I figure out where to put tomatoes and if they'll need to be in growbags or something (since I have clay soil).

I think it was Chris right ?  they looked a sight from memory, but I think he did OK with fruit.

I really don't understand why it is so important to wax-lyrical (and in such detail!) about a bl***y tomato though  ;D

They're red (mostly) they're round (mostly) you can make things out of them and there are different varieties available.

Also suspect the chap's understanding of photosynthesis - says the plants need air to breathe & then refers to them needing carbon.  Maybe tomato plants don't need as many leaves as they produce but they need to photosynthesise or how do they get the energy to produce fruit?  sure some of the very clever peeps on here could put him right & only charge him $13 or whatever.  :)

I'm sticking to the same technique as last year; just let them grow as they want. The one difference is that I'm going to try to stop them falling down this time. I had loads of toms, including some big ones, without any of that faffing about at all.

I strip off some leaves, just so I can get around the plants as they grow like triffids!  There aren't enough hours in my day to start removing certain leaves at certain times.

To be honest, i didnt know what i was doing ;)  Only got a few toms, mostly green.

I strip leaves from the bottom upwards as the the fruit grows and is harvested.
