Really big plant pots wanted

Does anyone have any spare (aka free) plant pots going- big enough for me to grow potatoes in (Reading area)? or does anyone know of a good cheap source of the same?

Thanks so much - I realise time in marching on and I need to get them in!

Sorry I cant help, but Morrisons sell black buckets at 8 for a pound. If you are lucky, you can get a pile with 10 in!

how about and inside/out compost bag.  i tried this last year and although i didn't get many pots, it was fun to watch !

Wilko sells laundry bins for £3.00, they are not in their gardening section. These bins will fit a big palm tree. May be a bit too big for potato, but good enough for a grape bush or something like that. I'm thinking about getting one/two of these, good value for money.

Our recycleable rubbish is collected in large handy-sized rigid plastic boxes - some even have drainage holes already punched in  :P Council literature says you can ask for more if you need them 8)

Me, I take my rubbish weekly to the bins outside Aldi.......

I'd be wary of using non-food-grade plastic, but that's just me and my paranoia.

Your best bet would be to buy fermenting buckets from your local car-boot sale, or Wilkinsons. Wilko sell them for about £8 quid.

Thank you all for your ideas - sadly no Wilko in Reading - too far to drive to Didcot for the nearest store - will try the laundry basket idea somewhere else and recyling boxes sound good.

we use stacks of old tyres, two high, soil in the bottom, potato, soil in second..as it grows, pop another on top and keep on covering with soil, not too many but delicious  ;D

I remember the programs well. I have since seen car tyres used like this, but painted green to look a bit nicer. Cant remember where though ???

too true, we went past a local dumping site, 22 tyres, took us 4 trips to the plot, we now use them to grow squash and courgettes in.. ;D
