Anyone fancy growing there own tobacco or coffee and even tea, they also had cotton seeds  and water chestnuts. Quite the site. XX Jeannine

I would not mind a look Jeannine ;D

I already grow tobacco, coffee & tea I tried water chestnuts once but they turned out to be a different type to what I was expecting & were not that nice so I got rid of them I have never been able to track down seeds for proper chinese water chestnuts.

Hi

I already use Landreth Seeds,  Baker Creek Heirloom and Sandhill Preservation Center Seeds but I wouldn't mind a look.

I recommend looking up these 3 sites on google as they're great.

I've just found a British site - Supreme Seeds - that sell all sorts of obscure stuff. Coffee, Casabanana, lots of interesting goodies.. can't find out how much they want for postage, though, hm.

dtw

Post a link to the site.
Tea would be nice to grow, green tea is better for you.

I saved some Dragon fruit seeds from one that I had and they have come up today.
I'll have to look into the growing conditions for them though, but I suspect I will
need to keep them indoors.
I have a couple of fig seeds that have come up too.

The trouble is one of my cats has decided to sleep on top of the heated propagator
and is blocking out most of the light.

Is your baccy smokeable baccyman? Would love to have a go at growing tea & coffee. Any tips?!
Don't throw paper away. There is no away.

Baccy Man

My tobacco is smokable I am smoking it as I write this, I gave instructions on how to grow & process it in this thread http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,72/topic,27250.0

Coffee can take ages to germinate I have 4 varieties they took between 2 weeks & 6 months to appear. I keep them trained as bushes in 20 litre pots indoors most of the year & outside but in the shade as they don't seem to like the sun for the summer. It takes 3-4 years before you get any coffee beans from them. I wouldn't say the coffee is exceptional but it's better than some of the cheaper ground coffee you get.
Tea (camelia sinensis) indoors & out for summer likes as much sun as possible leaves picked straight from the plant make good green tea but I haven't really looked into fermenting & drying the tea for long term storage.
Neither tea or coffee need much looking after once you've got them started.

dtw - I grow dragon fruits.  They are a climbing cactus, quite spikey things.  I have them in a large trough in my conservatory now and they are romping away.  Very easy to keep once they are growing.

Tea sounds great....but I am yet to crack growing okra!

dtw

I'm going to try Okra again this year.
I had a couple of plants last year in my garden, but they didn't do very well as my garden
has really bad soil. Typical 6 inches of topsoil over rubble on an 80s new build site.

I found this Dragon fruit farm website, and they can grow into quite big trees.  :o

dtw, that pic is hilarious. Love the baleful glare you're getting from the cats. They know they're in trouble, don't they? ;)

dtw

They are really in trouble now, I put the tray by the window with the lid off,
and they have used it as a litter tray.
Seedlings everywhere :o
They are all chillies, so I have no idea what is what.
They were all really expensive super hot varieties too.  :'(

I'll have to order some more and start again. >:(

Bless them, the mischiefs!  I hope they didn't get any seeds on them anywhere, they could be quite painful if they are hot chillies, stuck in their paws?
