I thought this was great.
Eldest daughter bought a small innocent smoothie at work, and whilst reading the label, noticed this:-

"Our new bottle
We've finally cracked it. This bottle is made entirely from a 100% renewable source - corn.
It uses no plastic whatsoever, is manufactured in a carbon neutral process and is totally compostable, helping to reduce landfill waste. To find out more go to www.innocentdrinks.com/ecobottle ".

Here is hoping BIGTIME that others take this up, who knows in a few years time we may be chucking all our now plastic milk bottles in the compost! ;D ;D

This little one is now going into mine! ;)

they just cost the earth in another way!  ;D

only joking, just they are quite expensive those smoothies!

Doris_Pinks

I was amazed at what they cost, I make smoothies for me, and she wont touch em with a bargepole! Would rather buy them with her hard earned money! Teenagers!!

My daughter is the same....teenagers huh!

Good packaging idea though, I wonder how long they take to break down in a compost heap? Will we end up with eco bottle banks as well at lottie sites?! ;D
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Good news.

Shame that they were bought up like Ben & Jerry to give another 'big boy' a green face.

Amazin

Who bought them up, Tim - I thought they were the last of the Good Guys...

Mrs KP, it is not all their bottles, just the breakfast thickie!

They say

"So why are you not immediately switching all your bottles from 50% recycled PCR to PLA?

Corn starch bottles are a very new development so there is currently a real lack of composting infrastructure around. Only 10% of the UK’s recycling centres have machines that can sort these bottles from the normal PET and HDPE plastic ones. The rest separate bottles by hand.

In the meantime, compostable bottles can be recycled with plastic bottles, but to maintain the quality of the recycled plastic, compostable bottles should not make up more than 1% of the mix. We therefore have to be careful about how many compostable bottles we put out into the market before the correct facilities are in place to handle them, something we are actively campaigning for at the moment."

Shame, but who knows down the road....................

MrsKP

just had a look on the carton to see what i could see and found on the base:

"You should probably try opening this carton at the other end.  Not that we're telling you how to run your life or anything, but it seems to work much easier when the drink comes out of the spout on the top."

Funny buggars.
;D

Just found that I've got to go to their website to find out how to recycle the carton.

Amazin - my apologies to Innocent - thought it was Nestlé, but just checked with Him who knows -

"No, I don't think Innocent were taken over by Nestle: I saw their directors last year, and no news of it that I recall.

But Green & Black's were taken over by Cadbury Schweppes & Body Shop were taken over by L'Oreal, owned by Nestle".

Ben & Jerry "...In the merger agreement between Ben & Jerry's and Unilever.......".

But I was so sure that I had a hot flush about Innocent - it'll come back to me one day!

You are so right Tim, big business is treating green products as a marketing tool, whilst the rest of there business carries on as normal

Mrs Ava

I've never had one.  I feel like I am missing out!  Mind you, sounds like I couldn't afford one anyhow.  :-\ :-\

tim

You could use home grown Bananas, Emma?

So long as you have a food processor, everyone can have a Smoothie?

MrsKP

£2.99 in Morrison's tonight so I declined to repeat the experience.

Bought some bananas and plums instead.
