We have finally managed to get hold of an allotment plot near our home in London, phew :P ;D. It has been neglected for years and there's a lot of work doing to it, but I thought I'ld get started just a little bit with some of the fun bits already, no, this does not include digging, the digging can wait I WANT BERRIES!!! Are there any surplus berry cuttings out there looking for a good home? Big ones, small ones, strange ones, common ones, they're all very welcomed at this stage. I can swap for seeds (of which have plenty-see link to trade list below) I can send stamps for postage, ooo what else could you..oh I have well rooted bay plant cuttings that you can have in return. If nothing of this is of interest to you, give suggestions, there must be something you're after, so fire away!

manicscousers  - Thank you! I can taste home made gooseberry jam in my mouth already! Yes, white currants are fascinating. My grandmother had a huge white currant bush when I was a child, but haven't seen them since. They never were as popular amongst us children (maybe they were a bit less sweet). I can imagine they would look brilliant served fresh, as cake decorations, together with some of the red ones too maybe.

Biscombe - thanks! It's an absolutely georgeos spot - crammed inbetween a golf course and a cemetary and our plot is on the golf course side, so we've been warned to lookout for flying golf balls!

Barnowl

Welcome. Wish you every success :)

We only started last year in March, so have some idea of what the first year can be like! We have found this site incredibly useful and welcoming - hope it proves the same for you.

manicscousers

Hi Cultivated swedes, I've dug the gooseberry up, there are actually 2, one's not got too much root on but I thought you might like them both, m

the.cultivated.swedes

Thanks for the good luck wishes Barnowl, we need it! And yes, this site has already proven both useful and welcoming to us too. ;D

manicscousers - Wow, double luck! I'm sure we could get it going..maybe it's had a bad start 'cause it's been groing so close to the other one, we'll give it plenty of space and hopefully it will grow some more root, thanks!

LauraB

I have a blackberry that you can have if you like? I bought four as soon as I got my allotment without fully realising how much space they require!

the.cultivated.swedes

Wow, would love one. Our space is still completely empty so we'll definitively have room for one. How much space do we need to give it? or do you know what variety it is so we can google some info about it? and what would you like in reaturn?

ooo, too many questions, will pm you. Thanks again!

LauraB

Hi, it needs 3m between plants and 2m between rows, so the bumph says - but I don't know how that would work just having one. The variety is "Ashton cross" - a thorny one.

I'd love some elderflower seeds in return, if you have any left?

the.cultivated.swedes

manicscousers; Gooseberry's arrived in perfect condition and are now soaking away in water before being planted, thank you :D.

Laura; Will post the Elderberry seeds out on Monday. These seeds need stratification before sowing, or, if you're patient/lazy, sow them when autumn comes instead and nature will do the work for you. Good Luck!

Blue Bird

Hi have just taken dekivery of my raspberry canes Glen Ample if they are OK can send you 2?  no crop this year you would have to wait until 2008
