I tried asparagus peas a couple of years ago and they tasted really, really bleugh!  Honestly would not advice spending any money on these.

I was thinking of growing them too. Saw this in an article about them:

"Pods need to be picked when they are just one to two inches long (or a day or two after the flowers fade). Otherwise, they become too fibrous to be eaten."

The full article is at http://www.bbg.org/gar2/topics/kitchen/2004su_asparaguspea.html

I grew Asparagus Pea once and you really do need to pick them small... novelty shape and very decorative plants though... hope to grow a few this year as Ornamentals... would need loads to get enough to eat every other day!

Even this small they taste like cardboard

Smile, it confuses people.

Tried asparagus pea here too, complete waste of time apart from the pretty flowers. The pods are so small when in an edible state that you probably use more calories picking them than you get from eating them.

I grew asparagus peas this year and enjoyed the flavour but agree they must be eaten before the peas inside the pods form or they are awfull!  Adrian, I have some saved sead if you would like a couple to try ..

I agree with what others have said.  I grew asparagus peas last year but never again - even picked small they were tasteless with an unpleasant consistency.   :(

Hi all,  :D
Thanks to everyone for their comments on these 2, thanks also to T B  for the seed offer  ;) (thanks but no thanks)  I guess I have saved a few bob by asking the question, needless to say they are not now on my shopping list. They sounded so good in the seed catalogue 8)  any one else been fooled by the spiel intended to make you buy?
