Are your main potatoes sprouting??

I had some main crop Maris piper left in a sack and they have started sprouting. Has anyone else's done this? For next year i'm now thinking it not worth growing too many if this happens.

Mine in the garage aren't.....yet, but the ones in the house are.  To warm you see - they are chitting!  Pink fur apples never do though.

yep - ours are badly - maris piper (I think....) have resorted to putting them in the fridge in the garage and are trying to eat them as quick as possible....

pink furs are still fine as well :))) they are soooo tasty too tempting to just eat these instead..............

Some varieties are less prone to chit...PFA will, usually towards the end of March in my store.... Earlies like Epicure and Red Dukes are my worst offenders but they aren't meant for storage.... we are just finishing them off!

Will second the bit about PFA never sprouting...  ;)

made the mistake of trying to chit them last year when I first tried them. Eventually gave up and threw them into the ground (you could almost hear the poor things breathing a sigh of relief as the soil closed over their heads!)  ;D

They are in a cold place an old brick garage. I could just plant these next year and forget about buying any ;D

If they have started sprouting now Rosy they will have huge spindly shoots by next year and have been seriously weakend you might also get a poorer crop if you had a lot of aphids on the plants spreading virus..

is it ok to rub off the shoots and cook them anyway?
